COURT NEWS

LISBON – One of the three inmates who escaped from the Columbiana County Jail in June 2019 only to change his mind was placed on probation.

In county Common Pleas Court this week, Michael A. Conzett, 23, Rigby Street, East Liverpool, was sentenced by Judge Megan Bickerton to three years’ probation after previously pleading guilty to an escape charge.

As part of Conzett’s probation, he was vordered to serve up to six months at the prison alternative facility in Wintersville.

On June 17, 2019, three inmates – Michael W. Hover, Anthony Wagoner and Conzett – reportedly made their escape from the minimum security portion of the jail, breaking a window in the shower area, cutting through the security fence outside and crawling out. While Hover and Wagoner ran down the hill and left in a passing vehicle, Conzett apparently changed his mind and returned to the jail.

Hover, 29, East Third Street, Salem, received a two-year prison sentence in February, although some of that time runs concurrently with a drug-related case.

Wagoner, 39, Cadmus Street, East Liverpool, failed to appear in February for a sentencing hearing on both the escape charge and a receiving stolen property charge. A bench warrant was issued at that time.

While Conzett returned on his own to the jail, Hover and Wagoner were gone for about two days before being arrested in their own hometowns.

In other court action, Annette L. Reitz, 49, state Route 517, Lisbon, was sentenced to 30 months in prison on multiple other charges dating back to 2017.

Reitz was initially sentenced to eight months in prison on an aggravated possession of drugs charge involving meth from January 2018. This sentence was ordered served consecutively with sentences from three prior cases, for a combined 30 months.

Travis A. Swinehart, 26, Pittsburgh Street, Columbiana, was sentenced by Judge Scott Washam to four years’ probation/treatment after pleading guilty to aggravated drug possession involving meth. The crime occurred in October 2019.

Nikita M. Albright, 31, of Mount Pleasant, Pa., was sentenced by Bickerton to three years’ probation/treatment after pleading guilty to aggravated drug possession involving hydromorphone. The crime occurred in April 2018. Albright received credit for 46 days spent in the county jail.

Amanda R. Albertson, 26, of Toronto, was sentenced by Bickerton to four years’ probation/treatment after pleading guilty to possessing meth. The crime occurred in June 2018. She received credit for 44 days spent in the county jail.

Michael J. Mick, 42, North Walnut Street, East Palestine, was sentenced by Washam to three years’ probation for helping two people steal a pickup belonging to Jared Clark last October.
