LISBON — John Peter Elia, 58, West Bloomfield, Mich., pleaded guilty in Common Pleas Court to both trafficking in marijuana and possession of marijuana. The charges are third-degree felonies due to the amount of marijuana he had at least 5,000 grams, but less than 20,000 grams. Sentencing is set for Dec. 14, when he faces up to six years in prison, a five-year license suspension and a $20,000 fine.
Assistant County Prosecutor Alec Beech said he will ask for a nine-month prison term and a year license suspension. According to Beech, a K-9 alerted that there were drugs in the vehicle, which were discovered in a hidden compartment in the van he was operating.
Christopher A. Hightower, 38, Ohio Avenue, East Liverpool, was sentenced to nine months in prison for possession of cocaine and two counts of possession of drugs for having cocaine, alprazolam and clonazepam on Feb. 6, 2019. He was credited with 39 days already served.
Charles A. Marshall Jr. 34, St. George Street, East Liverpool, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of receiving stolen property for having a Taurus 9-millimeter pistol belonging to Dimitri White on Aug. 8, 2019. He was sentenced to six months in jail, which was suspended, and placed on two years community control with a $1,000 fine. Marshall had initially been charged with a fourth-degree felony receiving stolen property.
