SALEM
— Gloria Lykens, 30, of 555 Columbia St., was charged with obstructing official business and taken into custody on a warrant for failure to appear on a fraud charge after officers at 1:14 a.m. Thursday checked on a suspicious female loitering behind a closed business in the 100 block of North Ellsworth Avenue. On two occasions, the female provided officers with a false name and this time was ultimately charged with obstruction. While under arrest, she provided adequate information and was found to have an active warrant. She was turned over to a Columbiana County sheriff’s deputy.
— Police responded at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday to the 900 block of East Fourth Street for an assault. Police spoke to the man and to the male who allegedly assaulted him. The man was so intoxicated he was unable to tell police what happened. Other people in the house said the man fell due to his intoxication. Fire department first responders and EMT arrived and he was taken to Salem Regional Medical Center.
— Two people were reported playing basketball at Centennial Park after closing hours at 10:27 p.m. Wednesday. They were told park hours and left without incident.
— A neighbor dispute was reported at 9:29 p.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of East Fourth Street where a woman said her neighbor moved her trash can from the porch while she was discarding items due to her getting ready to move out. Officers made contact with the neighbor who said due to the smell of the trash can and amount of bugs in it that he didn’t think it should be on the porch. Officers resolved the issue by placing the trash container off the edge of the porch so the female could still discard her items.
— Logan Daugherty, 25, of 37934 Butcher Road, was taken into custody on a warrant for possession of drug abuse instruments after officers at 9:17 p.m. Wednesday saw a male known to have a warrant walking down East State Street near Papa John’s. During the arrest, police located suspected narcotics that will be sent for testing. Charges may be pending for possession of drugs. He was turned over to a sheriff’s deputy.
— A suspicious green Chevy Trailblazer was reported in the 700 block of East Fourth Street at 7:48 p.m. Wednesday. A caller said the vehicle drove slowly past her residence and then parked down the street and was there at least 20 minutes. Officers made contact with the driver and learned he was waiting for his grandchildren at a nearby residence.
— Officers at 6:33 p.m. Wednesday stopped at a residence in the 200 block of North Lincoln Avenue after hearing a male shouting. He was alone and told police he was just agitated because he recently quit smoking. He was told to keep the noise down.
— Police responded at 6:08 p.m. Wednesday to an establishment in the 2400 block of East State Street for a male having a medical problem. Officers stood by until the fire department and ambulance arrived and he was taken to Salem Regional Medical Center.
— Police were called at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday to Sparkle Market on South Lundy Avenue for a suspicious elderly male following people around in the parking lot. He wasn’t found.
— Police at 4:18 p.m. Wednesday spoke with a female in reference to harassment in the area of Aetna Street. Officers obtained information for a report for possible charges pending an investigation.
— An assault was reported at 4:08 p.m. Wednesday at a facility in the 2500 block of Bentley Drive where an employee reported he was attempting to remove a food tray from a female resident when she scratched him on both forearms. Officers learned the woman didn’t understand what she did due to her having mental issues. The employee only wanted a report on file.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Eighth Street at 4:03 p.m. Wednesday to make contact with a juvenile entered as a runaway on Tuesday. She had an active warrant out of juvenile court for her arrest for unruliness. Officers had learned the juvenile was at a friend’s home in Washingtonville. Her mother said this wasn’t the first time her daughter had been unruly or left home without permission. Contact was made with the 16-year-old juvenile who was placed in custody and taken to the Tobin juvenile detention center.
— A woman met with police at 3:59 p.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of North Cunningham Road and reported an incident that occurred just prior to her calling, at Walmart. She said she was waiting to put out of the Walmart entrance at East State Street when a male in a white Dodge truck behind her began honking his horn and yelling at her. She said the male followed her to the Early Bird Learning Center on North Cunningham and blocked her vehicle in, then started yelling and making threatening comments to her. She just wanted a report on file.
— Ashley House, 32, of Washingtonville, was cited for driving under suspension and fictitious plates after a traffic stop at 3:54 p.m. Wednesday in the Burger King parking lot on East State Street. Suspected contraband was recovered.
— Police responded at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday to Home Depot on East State Street for a fire alarm, but saw no smoke coming from the building. An employee said the alarm was being tested.
— A possible intoxicated driver was reported at 3:14 p.m. Wednesday in the 2400 block of East State Street. A traffic stop was initiated, but police found the driver was not impaired. The driver received a verbal warning for left of center.
— A neighbor dispute was reported at 2:49 p.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of Cherry Street where a man said the neighbor keeps running over his property line marker. Police spoke with all parties involved.
— Solicitors were reported at 1:19 p.m. Wednesday in the 800 block of East Third Street. Officers made contact with two males who said they worked for an electric energy company. They were told they needed a permit.
— A caller at 11:31 a.m. Wednesday reported a suspicious red Kia SUV in the 700 block of North Lincoln Avenue with a female driver. Police located the vehicle on East Seventh Street and a female walking on Superior. She was identified as a U.S. Census worker checking on addresses of people who didn’t respond to the Census.
PERRY TOWNSHIP
— Police were called at 12:12 a.m. Wednesday to Circle K South on South Lincoln Avenue for a welfare check on a female asleep at the wheel of a vehicle. Officers saw two people asleep in the vehicle and knocked on the window to wake up the female who said she fell asleep due to not sleeping much the past two days. A male in the vehicle was unresponsive and KLG arrived and woke him up. He said he was intoxicated and passed out. Since the female had a suspended license, a valid driver was requested to come for the vehicle. The male signed a medical refusal saying he was fine.
— Police responded at 3:34 p.m. Tuesday to the 1100 block of Liberty Street for a welfare check on a person who allegedly made comments about harming himself while at Key Bank if his debit card didn’t work. Officers attempted contact, but no one responded at the residence.
— A 16-year-old Salem boy was cited into juvenile court for failure to yield after pulling out of a private drive on North Lincoln Avenue at 2:49 p.m. Tuesday, striking a northbound vehicle on North Lincoln Avenue driven by a 16-year-old Salem girl.
— Police were called at 2:28 p.m. Tuesday to the 400 block of Benton Road to check on a man sitting on a guardrail. The man was not located.
— A man on Harding Avenue at 11:02 a.m. Tuesday reported possible threats made from a social media page, saying his son made threats to his elderly grandfather.
— Police assisted KLG at 7:07 a.m. Tuesday at an unknown medical in the township. One person was transported to the hospital.
— A tree was reported blocking the road at 8:37 p.m. Monday in the 1700 block of state Route 9. Police stood by with the Ohio State Highway Patrol until the fire department and Ohio Department of Transportation arrived.
— Police responded to state Route 45 at 6:29 p.m. Monday to assist the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office attempting to serve a warrant. The person was not found.
— A person from Budget Rental reported at 12:20 p.m. Monday that a trailer that was rented was not returned as scheduled on Sept. 3. Information will be sent to the prosecutor if the male who rented it can’t be found.
LEETONIA
– An officer responded with Columbina police to a Pine Street home at 4:13 a.m. Sept. 4 where the resident reported someone was in the basement. The officers searched the home and found no one.
– An anonymous complainant reported possible drug activity at 5:47 p.m. Sept. 4.
– Stephen Daniel Fish, 27, Howard Avenue, Salem, was cited for possession of marijuana following a traffic stop at Columbia and Lisbon streets at 9:17 p.m. Sept. 4.
– An officer responded to a High Street home at 8:23 p.m. Sept. 5 where a resident reported a missing child who had been upstairs with his sisters but was gone when she checked on them. Columbiana police assisted with the search and the child was eventually found in a vehicle in the driveway.
– An officer responded to the 300 block of Somer Street at 9:06 p.m. Sept. 5 where a resident reported the neighbor using power tools while his children were trying to sleep. The officer spoke with the neighbor who said she was attempting to secure a shed door because there were valuables inside. She was advised to finish before curfew.
– An officer responded to a 200 block State Street home at 9:54 a.m. Sunday where the resident reported hearing people at her door overnight and believed they were attempting to gain entry. She said she did not call the police when it was happening because she was scared. She was advised officers would keep an extra watch at her residence.
– An officer responded to a Madison Street location at 11:15 a.m. Sunday where a Washington Street resident reported someone had stolen the catalytic converter off her motorhome that she keeps at the Madison Street location.
– John Mark Simonds, 57, West Main Street, Leetonia, was cited for driving under suspension and a marked lanes violation following a traffic stop on Hazel Street at 8:04 p.m. Sunday after an officer responded to the area in reference to a reckless driver and observed him driving in the opposite lane of travel. Simonds said he was playing with the radio and wasn’t paying attention.
— An officer responded to Walnut Street at 11:17 a.m. Wednesday in reference to an Aarow Disposal truck leaking fluid on the streets. Upon inspecting the truck, the officer found raw trash liquid running out under the trash unit and the driver’s side front brake rotor was cracked in several places. The officer also observed the diesel fuel tanks on each side of the vehicle had fuel on the outside of the tanks. The driver was advised to leave the village and not return until the repairs had been taken care of.
LISBON
— A woman reported that someone stole her keys at 9:25 a.m. Wednesday. She was advised that a report would be on file. The woman then went to the station to file another report. She advised that someone was coming into her apartment while she was sleeping and raping her. The officer asked when the man was in her apartment last, and the woman didn’t know. The officer then asked how she knew it was happening, and the woman said she was not sure, but she knew it was happening. The woman allegedly has a shirt on with large holes and no bra, and the officer told her that it was inappropriate to wear that shirt in public. She stormed out of the station and told the officer that she would be filing charges against him.
