SALEM FIRE CALL

— Firefighters were called at 7:03 a.m. Monday to Quaker City Castings, 310 Euclid St., for a structure fire, learning on arrival that a casting machine had an issue and molten steel was on the floor and under the machine. An employee was using a garden hose to extinguish the fire. The fire department used hose water and the fire was under control by 7:13, with the fire out but water continuing to be sprayed to cool the area. There were no injuries. The department had called in off-duty personnel to standby at the station. Firefighters returned to the station at 7:28 a.m. Police and fire personnel had been called to the same plant Sunday evening for a call of a possible structure fire after a woman reported seeing smoke, but no fire was found upon investigation.
