— No injuries were reported after a large tree fell and hit the southeast corner of a home in the 600 block of Deming Street at 7:55 a.m. Wednesday, causing significant damage to the exterior. Fire Lt. Jim Vross said the tree, which was in the homeowner’s back yard, split about 10 feet up, fell and hit the house, with some branches touching the car in a neighbor’s driveway, but with no damage to the car. Ohio Edison responded and the branches on the wires were removed. The homeowner was told to have an electrician repair the service to the home and to have a tree company remove the tree. Vross said the residents were able to remain in the house.

— Firefighters were called at 5:46 p.m. Tuesday to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 251 S. Broadway Ave., for a possible gas leak inside the building. The building had been evacuated and the odor was in the basement. Firefighters checked the building with meters, but found no hazards.
