— Firefighters responded to the 500 block of Deming Street at 10:51 p.m. Oct. 26 for a report of smoke in a bathroom where the caller had electrical work done earlier in the day. When personnel arrived, there were moderate smoke conditions showing from the roof, and a police officer was already on scene assisting the resident in removing their dogs from the residence. The homeowner advised the fire was in the exhaust fan in the master bedroom, and firefighters entered the home with a handline and found light to moderate smoke conditions throughout the house, and heavy smoke and burn marks on the ceiling and around the exhaust fan in the master bedroom. Power to the residence was shut off at the main breaker and smoldering insulation could be viewed through a hole made in the drywall by the resident. A thermal imaging camera scan showed moderate heat in the bathroom ceiling and inside wall which were opened with a hook to expose the flame and burning insulation, and foam was added to the houseline and the entire area was extinguished. Ohio Edison was contact the remove electrical service from the residence, and gas and water service was shut off at the meter. The homeowner and his wife were evaluated for smoke inhalation and were transported to the emergency room by EMT. The Ohio State Fire Marshal’s officers were notified of the injuries suffered by the residents.
