Sheriff’s Office
— A woman on old state Route 344, Salem Township, reported at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday that her landlord told her she needs to move out today and she will not get back her deposit. She was advised to contact an attorney and was advised of the eviction process.
— Deputies responded at 6:37 a.m. Nov. 27 to the area of Scroggs Road and FCI Elkton for a possible drone flying over the federal prison facility. Deputies were advised the prison roving patrol was detaining a person in the area; however, upon arrival, deputies were advised a possible suspect fled into the woods in a blue SUV on private property near the facility. Deputies attempted to locate the vehicle, but it fled the area prior to deputies arriving.
Salem
— Officers responded to the 700 block of East State Street at 3:36 a.m. Thursday for a report of a large sign that had blown into the roadway. Officers were able to place the sign back onto the owner’s property.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of East 10th Street at 11:44 p.m. Wednesday for a report of telecommunications harassment. Officers spoke with the caller about the issue and contacted the other party and advised them to cease contact or they could face potential charges.
— Officers were contacted by the Salem superintendent at 11:10 p.m. Wednesday regarding an email he received along with other school districts in Ohio. The matter is currently under investigation.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of Woodland Avenue at 9:51 p.m. Wednesday for a wellness check. The caller advised that she had not heard from her brother in over 8 hours. Officers attempted contact at the address, but nobody was present, and the caller was advised officers would continue to check the home. Approximately an hour later the caller contacted officers to advise that she had heard from her brother, and he was okay.
— Officers on patrol in the area of Park Avenue and Maple Street at 3:12 p.m. Wednesday observed a large amount of debris in the roadway from a spilled toolbox. While picking up the items the owner returned and collected them.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of East State Street at 12:13 p.m. Wednesday for a reported parking complaint. Officers located the vehicle which was parked in a not parking zone and attempted to locate the owner but were unable to do so. A parking citation was issued and placed on the vehicle.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 9:49 a.m. Wednesday for a report of fraud. The caller advised that someone had hacked her bank account and used $160 to make a purchase without her permission. The caller advised that she had already filed a claim with her bank but needed a report on file.
— Officers responded to the 700 block of Summit Street with the fire department at 8:31 a.m. Wednesday for a reported structure fire. Officers conducted traffic control until no longer needed.
Perry Township
— Officers responded to the 500 block of West Pine Lake Road at 9 a.m. Wednesday for a reported property issue. The caller had brought family members to the residence to help her pack and move her items out, and their ex-boyfriend did not want her family members inside the residence. They ultimately allowed the movers to enter the residence and officers stood by until no longer needed.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Liberty Street with the fire department and EMT at 3:46 p.m. Tuesday for a reported medical call. The person in question was transported to the Salem Regional Medical Center by EMT.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of Benton Road at 1:22 p.m. Tuesday for a reported domestic. The caller advised that she and her boyfriend had gotten into an argument and he had grabbed her by the throat, throwing her to the ground, slapping her and attempting to poke her in the eye before placing her in a headlock and throwing her onto the bed. The caller advised she had been able to get up and leave the residence, and officers contacted the boyfriend, Nathaniel Hodgson, 40, Salem, at the residence, taking him into custody for domestic violence and transporting him to the Columbiana County Jail.
— Officers responded to the 1800 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 6:33 a.m. Tuesday for a reported person to be removed. The store manager advised that they wanted the person trespassed from the property and officers spoke with the involved parties and a no-trespass order was issued.
— Officers responded to the 1300 block of West State Street at 10:31 p.m. Sunday for a report of animal neglect. The caller advised there were three dogs inside the residence that weren’t being taken care of. Officers observed three dogs penned up inside the residence, feces on the floor in the living room, and strong odors of urine and feces. Officers also observed one of the dogs urinating on the floor. Officers advised the owner that the Columbiana County Dog Warden and children’s services would be contacted.
— Officers spoke to a person by phone at 8:50 p.m. Saturday who believed that threats had been made toward him from his girlfriend’s son. Officers had been advised earlier not to contact the person but now the caller wanted him to “pay” for his actions. The other party still had not made actual threats to the caller and it was found that the incident took place over a month ago while he was out of state. When the caller “did not get the answer he wanted” he advised he would contact his attorney.
— Officers responded to the 2000 block of Countryside Drive at 11:35 a.m. Saturday for a report of an unresponsive man. Once on scene with EMT, officers found the man with no signs of life inside the residence where he resided. Officers found nothing suspicious at the scene and the man was transported by EMT to Greenisen Funeral Home.
— Officers spoke to a man by phone at 11:21 a.m. Saturday to report what he believed to be threats toward him from his girlfriend’s son. Officers advised the man of his options, and the man advised he would not like officers to contact the person at that time.
— Officers responded to the 1000 block of Liberty Street at 11:01 a.m. Saturday for a reported barking dog complaint. Officers spoke with the dog owner who advised that they were going to bring the dog back in the house. Officers stayed in the area to make sure the barking had stopped.
— Officers responded to the 1300 block of West State Street at 11:17 p.m. Friday for a reported domestic between two sisters. The caller advised her juvenile sister lied about her age and brought an adult man to the residence, and when the man was made aware, the sisters began shoving each other. No injuries nor marks were observed, and the sisters were advised of the laws concerning domestic violence.
— Officers responded to the 700 block of Cunningham Road at 10:02 p.m. Friday for a reported domestic dispute. While the husband was taking video of his wife she knocked the phone away from her face. Both parties were concerned about the other placing makeshift barriers throughout the residence and having guests over. Both parties were advised they could go wherever they wanted in the household and could invite whomever they wanted over.
— Karen Reichenbach, 72, Colorado, was cited for failure to yield after her southbound vehicle on state Route 45 was struck by a vehicle driven northbound on Depot Road by C.J. Dawson, 30, Salem, at 6:21 p.m. Friday. Both drivers and their passengers denied medical treatment on scene and both vehicles were towed from the scene.
— Officers responded to the area of North Ellsworth Avenue at 1:56 p.m. Friday to provide traffic control for the Salem Police Department on a traffic stop they were conducting. Officers shut down southbound traffic until the roadway could be reopened.
Leetonia
— An officer investigated a noise complaint at 10:48 a.m. Nov. 26 in the 330 block of Ridge Street. It turned out to be a low battery alert in a discarded smoke alarm. The battery was removed, ceasing the noise and the scene cleared.
