Sheriff’s Office
— A Depot Road resident in Center Township called at 8:31 p.m. Thursday to request a report on file that he told another Depot Road resident three times now to not come onto his property.
— A Butler Township resident on Salem Alliance Road reported at 7:34 p.m. Thursday that her children’s father has been driving past her residence multiple times and calling and sending her unwanted messages for the past month. She was advised how to obtain a protection order. Earlier, at 7 p.m., she reported a man at a Knox Township residence was intoxicated and throwing items when she went to pick up her children. She was advised to contact an attorney.
— A woman on Grant Street in Center Township reported at 6:05 p.m. Thursday that her daughter’s father was in contempt of a custody order by not returning the daughter back to her residence. She was advised to contact the courts and an attorney.
— Deputies responded at 1:06 a.m. Thursday to the area of Sandy Creek and Rochester Road for a report of possible poachers and checked the area for a suspect vehicle, but the vehicle was not found. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources was made aware of the call. The vehicle was described as a black pickup with a cap and possibly four people inside. The vehicle was seen leaving the area prior to deputies arriving.
Salem
— Officers responded to the 100 block of West Pershing Street at 4:18 p.m. Thursday to assist Columbiana County children services. An emergency plan was put in place and children were removed from the residence. The housing inspector also responded and advised the home was uninhabitable and both parents were advised to contact the case worker for assistance so plans can be put in place for new housing along with other arrangements.
–Homer Hoprich, 82, Salem, was cited for failure to yield after his vehicle failed to yield from the stop sign when attempting to turn onto North Ellsworth Avenue from West 16th Street and struck a vehicle driven south by Nathaniel McHugh, 24, North Jackson, at 3:39 p.m. Thursday. No injuries were reported.
— The school resource officer was advised of an issue at a student’s residence in the 2200 block of Merle Road at 2:32 p.m. Thursday. The officer and school administrators “spoke with the student about the issues at home in great length” and all information gathered will be sent to the proper agencies for investigation.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of East State Street at 2:29 p.m. Thursday for a reported theft. The caller advised that sometime between 12:30 p.m. and the time of the call an unknown person stole their torpedo heater and proper tank which were sitting outside the rear of their business to thaw out a pie on the outside of the building.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of West Seventh Street at 2:06 p.m. Thursday for a report of a vehicle parked on the wrong side of the roadway. Officers spoke with the driver, who was not from the area, and the vehicle was moved.
— Officers took a report of telecommunications harassment at the police department at 1:21 p.m. Thursday. The woman advised that an ex-boyfriend would not stop contacting her via text message. Officers contacted the ex, and he was advised to cease all contact and that he could face criminal charges if he does not.
— Officers responded to a business in the 2300 block of East State Street at 12:38 p.m. Thursday for a reported theft. The caller advised that a woman stole two pairs of shoes and employees did not find out about the theft until two empty boxes were located inside the store. Security footage showed the woman passing all points of sale without rendering payment of the merchandise and officers are working to identify the woman.
Columbiana
— No arrests have been made yet after a large narcotics’ seizure following a traffic stop at 7:39 p.m. Jan. 3 in the 300 block of North Main Street. The matter remain under investigation.
— Subjects came on station at 12:48 p.m. Jan. 3 seeking information regarding securing a protection order.
— Police took a theft report from an incident that happened on New Year’s Eve at 10:23 a.m. Jan. 3 at the Way Station.
— Fraud was reported at 9:16 a.m. Jan. 3 in the 44000 block of state Route 14. No other details were noted.
— The investigation still is in progress for an assault reported shortly after midnight New Year’s Day at the Riser Tavern on the Links.
— A private property crash was reported at 2:21 p.m. Dec. 30 in the 1100 block of Village Plaza parking lot.
New Waterford
— Officers responded to the 3300 block of Pinewood Drive at 4:21 p.m. Jan. 5 to assist a resident with unwanted property.
