Salem

— Officers responded to the area of South Lundy Avenue at 2:06 a.m. Wednesday for a report of two people who had been seen taking a bike from a residence in the area of West Pershing Street. Officers were able to locate the people who advised the bike was theirs. Officers spoke with the residents who confirmed the bike belonged to them.

— Officers responded to the 1200 block of East Pidgeon Road at 11:29 p.m. Tuesday to assist Perry Township officers with a wellness check. Officers were unable to locate them.

— Officers responded to the area of Southeast Boulevard and South Madison Avenue at 6 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a person soliciting. Officers checked the area but did not locate them.

— Officers responded to the 1600 block of Shady Lane at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday for a report of fraud. The caller advised that an unknown person had charged items from Amazon to their debit card. The caller already notified their bank and suspended the account, and the matter is under investigation.

— Officers responded to the area of State Street and Ellsworth Avenue at 1:04 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a semi-truck that struck a light pole. Officers found that the truck in question was no longer in the area, and did not observe any damage to light poles. Officers located part of the mudflap of the semi and photos were obtained.

— Officers responded to the 1500 block of Cleveland Street at 12:08 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a suspicious vehicle. The caller advised that a black SUV had driven by their residence eight times in the last 30 minutes and requested an extra watch in the neighborhood.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 11:22 a.m. Tuesday for a report of theft. The person advised that a laptop was stolen from his vehicle sometime during the evening Monday in the 1000 block of North Ellsworth Avenue, and that the laptop was owned by his employer, and he needed a report on file. The caller was provided a report number, and officers will be following up in the area where the theft occurred for possible security footage.

— Officers spoke with Columbiana County Children Services regarding a possible sex offense involving a female juvenile inside city limits at 11:12 a.m. Tuesday. Information for the report was obtained, and the matter will be investigated.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of East Third Street at 10:06 p.m. Monday for a reported fight between two men outside the caller residence. When officers arrived nobody was outside fighting and the caller advised a man drove up in a white pickup truck, got out and began assaulting an elderly man who was walking down the sidewalk with another man before driving northbound while the two men who had been walking continued walking eastbound. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate anyone involved and the person in question flagged officers down a short time later admitting to assaulting the unknown man. He advised that he had seen the other men, who were wearing a mask to cover his face walking around his neighborhood for the past four nights and it appeared as if they were casing the area and that they had made a comment about his truck, and he told them to leave his neighborhood. No victims contacted the department to report the incident.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Granite Avenue at 3:38 p.m. Monday to assist Children Services with a court ordered home visit. Officers stood by until no longer needed.

— Officers responded to the 1700 block of Oak Street at 1:10 p.m. Monday for a report of a vehicle parked in the roadway. Officers located the vehicle in the middle of the roadway and observed a man slumped over the steering wheel and holding a can of aerosol dust cleaner. Officers knocked on the window multiple times until the man woke up and opened the window and officers were able to open the door and get the man out of the vehicle. The man requested medical attention and while at the hospital willingly gave a urine sample. Potential charges are pending test results.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of East Fifth Street at 12:42 p.m. Monday for a report of two people fighting with one swinging a pipe and the other some kind of edged weapon. Officers located nobody in the area and checked the surrounding streets and alleys but did not locate anyone resembling the description given.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of East State Street at 10:37 a.m. Monday for a report of a person not paying for gasoline and driving off. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle. Further investigation showed the person made a mistake with the fueling machine and responded back to the gas station to pay.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of West Fifth Street at 10:15 a.m. Monday for a reported barking dog complaint. Officers advised the owner of the complaint, and the dog only barked once while officers were present.

— Officers responded to the 1900 block of Fairview Court at 9:05 a.m. Monday for a wellness check. Officers were able to contact the person in question who advised she was asleep.

Leetonia

— An officer investigated the report of a reckless driver on state Route 344 coming into Leetonia at 7:59 p.m. Feb. 7. 

— A license plate was recovered in the roadway on Main Street near Steve’s Towing and the owner notified for retrieval at 3:25 p.m. Feb. 7. 

— A welfare check was performed on a subject at 3:10 p.m. Feb. 10 in the 200 block of Oak Street. He was fine. 

— A village employee checked on water coming up through a manhole cover at Columbia and Cherry streets east of the Leetonia Market. Nothing was found amiss; however, it was raining when the call came in at 6:42 p.m. Feb. 5.
