Sheriff’s Office
— A deputy conducted a traffic stop in the area of Y & O Road in Lisbon, which resulted in an OVI at 3:28 a.m. Monday. The matter was turned over to the highway patrol.
Highway Patrol
— Charlene Steen, of Beloit, was cited at 5:34 p.m. April 16 in Butler Township for failure to maintain an assured clear distance after rearending a vehicle driven by Michael Hollar, of Louisville, while traveling eastbound on U.S. Route 62 and forcing him into the back of Sarah Miller, of Damascus.
Salem
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Continental Drive at 4:15 a.m. Tuesday for a speak with officer report. The caller advised that every night someone walks up and down his sidewalk. He was advised that it is a public sidewalk, and the person was allowed to walk on it.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of West Wilson Street at 7:12 p.m. Monday for a report of fraud. The caller advised that he was checking his bank account and found multiple suspicious transactions and believes that someone in another state obtained his information and was using it to make fraudulent transactions through his account. The bank had already been contacted and frozen the account, and the caller was provided a report number.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Continental Drive at 3:07 p.m. Monday for a reported child custody incident. The caller advised that they have set visitation times through the court and that the children’s grandmother never brings the child during those times. The caller just wanted the violations on file at that time.
— McKaylah Levans, Salem, was cited for failure to control after her vehicle went off the right side of the roadway striking a yellow pole and continuing up and over an embankment in the 1200 block of South Lundy Avenue at 2:39 p.m. Monday. Levans was transported for possible injuries.
— Officers responded to the area of South Ellsworth Avenue and East Wilson Street at 11:19 a.m. Monday for a report of possible damage to a utility pole. The caller advised that the pole was excessively swaying while the wind was blowing. Officers did observe the pole to be swaying but no damage, and Ohio Edison was advised of the complaint.
— Officers spoke with a woman at the police department at 9:40 p.m. regarding a possible scam. They advised that she had received multiple calls from a man advising she had won the Publisher’s Clearing house and that four people would be coming to her residence with the winnings. Officers advised that this was a common scam and that no personal information nor money should be given and to contact officers in the unlikely event that people do show up.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of West Fourth Street at 3:23 a.m. Monday for a report of a distressed dog. Officers found that the dogs were in no danger and just wanted out of their cage.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of North Madison Avenue at 10:16 p.m. Sunday for a reported domestic in progress. Officers spoke with the resident and found that the dispute was verbal only.
— Officers responded to the 1300 block of Ridgewood Drive at 9:21 p.m. Sunday for a reported parking complaint. Officers advised the caller that all the vehicles were legally parked and that there were no parking violations.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 8:14 p.m. Sunday to assist the fire department with a dumpster fire at the rear of a business. Officers spoke with a person parked in the rear who advised that he did not notice anyone in the area prior to the fire starting. Dispatch checked security footage but were unable to see the dumpster. The fire was extinguished without issue.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of South Ellsworth Avenue at 12:24 p.m. Sunday for a reported domestic dispute. Officers spoke with the person involved and determined the matter to be a verbal dispute over family issues. Officers advised all parties of the options for dealing with the situation.
— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 12:21 p.m. Sunday for a report of possible drug paraphernalia. The caller advised that she located a bag of an unknown white substance in the store. The bag was collected and brought back to the police department and determined not to be narcotics and disposed of.
— Officers responded to the 1000 block of East Twelfth Street at 11:53 a.m. Sunday for a reported 911 hang-up call. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the source of the call.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of South Broadway Avenue at 10:29 a.m. Sunday for a reported animal complaint. The caller advised there was a coyote in the parking lot. Officers found it to be a dog, and due to it having an injury it was transported to the dog pound.
— Officers responded to the area of South Lincoln Avenue at 9:20 a.m. Sunday for a reported animal complaint. The caller advised that there was a possible coyote walking down the street. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the animal in question.
— Officers responded to the 700 block of West State Street at 4:17 a.m. Sunday for a report by a concerned customer that there was nobody in the store to speak to. Officers spoke with the clerk who advised that they were in the restroom while the caller was there.
— Officers assisted Perry Township officers with an OVI test at the police department at 3:20 a.m. Sunday.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of West Eighth Street at 3:02 a.m. Sunday for a reported neighborhood dispute over a driveway. Officers spoke with the caller and the other neighbors involved and resolved the issue, advising them to contact officers if there were any further issues.
— Officers on patrol in the 500 block of South Broadway Avenue at 2:25 a.m. Sunday observed a vehicle operating in a reckless manner in a parking lot and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver, Sean Alvarez, 31, New Waterford, was cited for reckless operation and was given a ride to his residence at his request.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of Cedar Street at 10:38 p.m. Saturday for a report of a vehicle speeding in the neighborhood. The caller advised that the neighbor on the west end of the street was driving erratically past his home at a high rate of speed. He was advised that officers would make frequent passes through the area to keep an eye on traffic. Contact was made with the neighbor who advised the matter was an ongoing issue with the neighbor despite them not speeding. They advised they would continue to drive slowly and avoid contact with the caller.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of East Second Street at 10:16 p.m. Saturday for a report of a suspicious person. Officers checked the area and the business and everything checked okay.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of East Perry Street at 10:01 p.m. Saturday for a reported custody issue. It was determined that nothing had occurred in the city and that the reported information had already been documented by other agencies.
— Officers responded to the area of West School Street and East Fifth Street at 9:49 p.m. Saturday for a reported fight. Officers located the people in question who were relatives and admitted to the altercation but there were no marks to indicate so on either person and neither party was cooperative. Officers advised them to stay away from each other for the night, and one was returning to their residence resolving the matter for the evening.
Leetonia
— An officer investigated an alarm drop at 1:22 a.m. April 15 at the Leetonia Community Public Library.
— Dispatch sent an officer to the 400 block of Pearl Street for a burning complaint at 8:30 p.m. April 17.
— Police responded at 1:35 a.m. April 18 to an alarm drop in the 400 block of Walnut Street.
— The village had fielded a call at 3:36 p.m. April 17 regarding a tree that that had fallen on the caller’s truck in the 300 block of Columbia Street and was blocking the alley. Damage to the vehicle was minimal.
— Evan Gamble, no address listed, was cited at 5:43 a.m. April 18 for driving under suspension and going 64 mph in a 50-mph zone coming around the bend of state Route 344.
— Occupants of an outdoor party at 12:42 a.m. April 19 were warned about being too loud.
— An officer investigated a burning complaint at 10:12 p.m. April 18 in the first block of Pine Street.
— A truck near the corner of Washington Street and Butcher Road held up traffic at 6:54 p.m. April 18 while attempting to repair a mailbox. He was advised that he would need to find another way to do the repair rather than blocking traffic.
East Palestine
— Officers provided mutual aid on a domestic disturbance at 12:11 a.m. on Friday on Hadley Road in Unity Township.
— Officers conducted a death investigation at 5:20 a.m. on Friday on East Main Street.
— Officers responded to a report of two suspicious people on East Rebecca Street at 10:36 p.m. on Thursday.
— Officers responded to a loud noise complaint at 10:10 p.m. on East Martin Street on Thursday. Officers spoke to all parties involved and advised to keep the noise down.
— Officers responded to the East Palestine City Park to a report of a suspicious person at 7:58 p.m. on Thursday. Officers made contact with the subject and determined nothing was amiss.
— Officers responded at 5 p.m. to West Main Street to a report of a possible breaking and entry. Officers checked the area and all appeared secure.
— Officers responded at 2:59 p.m. on Thursday to Brookdale to a report that grass from a mower struck a passing vehicle.
— Officers conducted a welfare check at 2:48 p.m. on Thursday on North Market Street and made contact with the subject.
— Officers conducted a welfare check at 10:24 a.m. on Thursday on Alice Street.
— Officers responded at 10:12 p.m. to North Market Street to a civil matter involving a man and woman returning each other’s property. Officers stood by while the exchange was made without incident.
— Officers responded to a report of a low hanging cable in the roadway on West Main Street at 10:12 a.m. on Tuesday. Officers were unable to make contact with the cable company and the wire was cut and removed.
— Officers responded to a report of a business owner on Park Avenue catching two males attempting to steal a transmission from his property at 2:01 p.m. on Tuesday. He later caught them attempting to load an asphalt roller onto their truck. Officers located the vehicle, but the property owner declined to prosecute.
