— Firefighters responded to an apartment in the 500 block of East State Street for a smoke investigation at 2:32 p.m. Tuesday. When personnel arrived, the apartment had light smoke throughout and a burnt-up bathroom vent fan was located. The power to the unit was shut down at the breaker box and positive pressure ventilation was used to clear the smoke, and the fan was taken down and the area was checked for hot spots with nothing found. The tenant left a message for the owner of the building to advise him of the issue and the incident is being forwarded to the city’s housing department.
— Firefighters responded to the 600 block of East State Street at 8:58 a.m. Monday for a report of smoke in the basement. Investigation located a smoking paper shredder in the basement, which was removed, and the building was ventilated.
