LISBON — In Columbiana County Municipal Court, a preliminary hearing was set May 19 for Jimmy Anderson, 34, state Route 558, Salem, charged with fourth-degree felony menacing by stalking. According to a police affidavit, on May 11, Anderson allegedly violated a protection order at a Leetonia home and allegedly keeps stalking the family after being told by the court to stay away. The affidavit said he has been charged in the past with protection order violations, trespassing and resisting arrest and allegedly said no amount of jail time will keep him away.
A pretrial was set May 22 for Ronald L. Grey, 42, Lincoln Street, Calcutta, charged with assault for allegedly punching a man, with a fight ensuing on the ground, on May 12 in St. Clair Township. The affidavit said the other man had allegedly flipped him off after pulling into the driveway next to his to turn around. After a review of video of the incident, it was determined that Grey was the aggressor of the altercation.
David Scheufele, 41, and Susan Scheufele, 45, both East Clark Street, East Palestine, were each fined $300 and given suspended 180-day jail terms for endangering children. They were both ordered to complete 20 hours community service and parenting classes. The Scheufeles were accused of leaving a 4-year-old child home alone on Nov. 3, 2024 while they were shopping at Walmart in Chippewa, Pa.. claiming the neighbor had agreed to check on the child, but the neighbor said there was no agreement. They also tried to claim that Ohio law did not specify age for leaving a child unattended.
Matthew Carle, 36, Main Street, Homeworth, was fined $550 and given a suspended 90-day jail term for physical control amended from operating a vehicle impaired and two counts of failure to control. His driver’s license was suspended for 180 days, with driving privileges granted, and he was ordered to complete 20 hours community service.
Anthony Mitchell, 33, Youngstown, was fined $200 for no license and speeding.
Timothy Lindsay, 53, West Main Street, New Waterford, was fined $150 for reckless operation amended from OVI first offense at the request of the prosecutor.
Angela Walsh, 44, Lacroft Avenue, East Liverpool, was fined $200 for driving under suspension and use of unauthorized plate.
A charge of reasonable control against Carolyn Cartwright, 69, West Garfield Road, Columbiana, was dismissed at the cost of the defendant, with the defendant stipulating to probable cause.
Dillon Allen, 32, Birch Road, East Liverpool, was fined $75 for an equipment violation amended from driving under suspension.
James Zimmerman, 30, state Route 7, Columbiana, was fined $150 for driving under suspension.
Kasey Bailey, 40, Holiday Street, East Liverpool, was fined $100 for expired license.
Dillon Jarvis, 26, North Benton, was fined $150 for driving under suspension.

Grand Jury
LISBON — A Canton woman was served Monday with a secret indictment issued by the Columbiana County Grand Jury for drug counts.
Sarah Ann Updyke, 45, was charged with aggravated trafficking in drugs, a second-degree felony, and fifth-degree felonies of aggravated possession of drugs and possessing criminal tools, with specifications for forfeiture of money from a drug case for allegedly possessing and attempting to sell methamphetamine in the vicinity of Heartland Christian School in Columbiana on Dec. 28, 2023 and possessing $43 and a cell phone. The amount of methamphetamine was equal or greater than bulk but less than five times bulk.

LISBON — An East Liverpool man accused of attempting to harm a police officer with a deadly weapon last year was sentenced to an indefinite term of two to three years in prison for felonious assault.
Kenneth R. Taylor, 46, Rigby Street, East Liverpool, appeared for sentencing recently in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court for the second-degree felony, receiving credit for three days already served in jail. He was originally charged with a first-degree felony of felonious assault.
Charges of fourth-degree felony domestic violence and misdemeanor resisting arrest will be dismissed.
Taylor was accused of striking a woman in the face during a domestic on July 20, 2024 in East Liverpool. When police arrived, Taylor was allegedly armed with knives, refused to obey commands and advanced toward officers and was tased several times before he stopped resisting. He allegedly caused or attempted to cause harm to the officer by means of a deadly weapon or dangerous ordnance identified as a hatchet/brass knuckles/knife.

— Thomas A. Watkins, 52, East North Avenue, East Palestine, was sentenced to 180 days in the county jail, with 120 days suspended, leaving a balance of 60 days still to serve in jail for misdemeanors of domestic violence and cruelty to companion animals. He was also placed under community control for three years. Felony charges of domestic violence and strangulation will be dismissed. The charges all stemmed from a July 3, 2024 incident in East Palestine when Watkins was accused of making obscene comments to a woman, then dragging her dog out of the kennel by his neck and throwing him at her. The dog hit her and fell to the ground and while the victim was attempting to get her dog, Watkins threw a muffin pan at her, hitting her in the back. An affidavit said she then threw the pan back towards him and he allegedly retaliated by grabbing her by the arm, punching her in the jaw and putting his hands around her throat, causing her to not be able to breathe. She struck him in the eye and he let go of her and as she was leaving with her dog, he allegedly pushed her out the back door.
— Albert James McVay, 61, Trinity Church Road, Lisbon, pleaded guilty to breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony, and misdemeanor theft, with sentencing set for July 14. A misdemeanor of criminal trespass will be dismissed. McVay was accused of entering Dollar General and taking a table and chairs on Oct. 26, 2024.
— Kaila DiMaggio, 27, Ohio Avenue, East Liverpool, was placed on a treatment plan for three years after pleading guilty to grand theft of a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony, with credit for nine days served. She was ordered to make restitution of $185.98. She stole a 2009 Ford Edge belonging to another woman on Nov. 16, 2024.
— Nathan Knight, 41, Niles, was sentenced to 270 days in the county jail, with credit for 200 days served, leaving a balance of 70 days still to serve, for violating his probation for aggravated possession of drugs. He possessed methamphetamine on Jan. 30. 2023.
— April Foutts, 57, Riverside Avenue, Wellsville, was sentenced to nine months in prison for aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, and tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, with credit for three days served. Foutts was accused of tampering with evidence and possessing methamphetamine on June 8, 2022.
