Sheriff’s Office

— Deputies were dispatched at 6:51 p.m. Monday to Hibbetts Mill Road, Yellow Creek Township, for a domestic incident. A man said a woman had been arguing with him since he got home and his girlfriend, who lives there with him, was beginning to argue back when the woman assaulted both of them. Heather McCarthy, 51, Hibbetts Mill Road, Wellsville, was charged with two counts of domestic violence. She recently appeared in Columbiana County Municipal Court on the two charges, with a pretrial set for Sept. 30.

— Deputies responded to an address on state Route 14, Unity Township, after being dispatched at 11:22 a.m. Monday for a report from an Amazon delivery driver that he was being threatened by a customer. The driver was calling through a third party emergency alert company and no information was provided about the caller. The caller hung up on dispatchers twice when they were advised to pull down the road so not to be in harm’s way. Deputies arrived and the van was not on scene. No one answered the door at the residence. Deputies checked the area and did not find the van and had no contact information.

— A domestic was reported at 12:25 a.m. Sunday in the area of Buckeye Road, Madison Township. Deputies spoke with both parties upon arrival and found everything to just be verbal, with everything in good order.

— Deputies responded at 1:09 a.m. Friday to Hartley Road, Knox Township, for a neighbor dispute. The parties involved were complaining about the other neighbors coming onto their property and allowing their pets onto the other property. Deputies advised the parties to attempt to work out their differences civilly and to stay off of each other’s property if not invited or permitted. All parties agreed.

— Deputies were dispatched at 11:27 p.m. June 11 to Forbes Road, Yellow Creek Township, for a welfare check on a man believed by friends to be having a mental crisis. Deputies spoke with the man, his wife and friends. He refused any assistance medically and was advised to seek medical attention. He and his wife advised of incidents that have taken place that they believe to be concerning. Deputies were unable to validate their claims one way or the other due to lack of evidence.

Highway Patrol

–John Ziegler, of Darlington, was cited at 2:13 p.m. June 9 in Middleton Township for failure to control, after running of the left side of state Route 170 while traveling northbound and striking a tree.

— Abigail Frank, of Irondale, was cited at 4:35 p.m. June 10 in Madison Township for failing to yield the right of way, after turning left on state Route 45 into the path of a southbound Lindsey DeBlasco, of Township Road in Wellsville, and striking her vehicle.

Salem

–Officers responded to the 400 block of Reilly Avenue at 12:41 a.m. Tuesday for a reported suspicious person. Officers were advised that multiple people were inside Sebo Stadium after hours. Officers spoke with the people, advising them of the hours of the stadium.

–Officers were flagged down in the 900 block of East Third Street at 11:34 p.m. Monday by a man who advised his son’s girlfriend was being contacted constantly by a person. Officers spoke with the juvenile, advising her to block the person on all platforms and that officers would speak with them. Officers advised the person to stop all contact with the juvenile and had them sign a trespass notice.

–Officers responded to the 800 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 9:44 p.m. Monday for a report of suspicious activity. The caller advised that they were outside when their dogs started barking toward a neighbor’s house when they heard what sounded like a window being opened. They also advised that there have been recent break-ins and asked officers to check the area. While searching the area, a person appeared from the woods and advised they were attempting to locate their dog. Officers checked the residence but did not observe any signs of forced entry.

–Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 8:58 p.m. Monday for a report of possible telecommunications harassment. Officers advised the caller of their options and what agency they would need to make the complaint with.

–Officers responded to the 800 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 8:26 p.m. Monday for a reported traffic stop. The person was stopped for a bicycle violation and ultimately taken into custody by the Highway Patrol for two felony warrants.

–Officers responded to the 400 block of East Second Street at 8:22 p.m. Monday for a report of threats. The caller advised that his juvenile son was being threatened by another juvenile riding his bike down the road. Officers spoke with both parties and advised them to leave each other alone.

–Officers responded to the 800 block of East State Street at 4:46 p.m. Monday for a report of a suspicious person acting strangely. Officers locate a woman sitting on a bench who advised they were fine and just using the Wi-Fi from the library.

–Officers responded to the 1900 block of Oak Street at 4:24 p.m. Monday for a report of criminal damaging. The caller advised that they have been having disputes with their neighbor and asked that they stay off their property and the neighbor had been caught on video mowing the grass then striking the caller’s garage with the mower.

–Officers responded to the 1400 block of Quaker Circle at 3 p.m. Monday for a reported parking complaint. A vehicle had been left on private property, and the owner did not want to tow the vehicle until an officer ran the plate to see if it was someone local or a possible stolen vehicle. Officers checked the registration which did not return to anyone local and had not been entered as a stolen vehicle.

–Officers responded to the 300 block of West Wilson Street at 1:21 p.m. Monday for a reported parking complaint. Officers were advised that the vehicle had been issued a red tag notice several days prior, and the caller advised that the vehicle had been parked in front of his house for over a week and nobody had been observed coming or going from the vehicle. Officers observed the notice to still be inside the vehicle, which was towed from the scene by Sinsley’s towing.

–Officers responded to the 900 block of South Lundy Avenue at 1:07 p.m. Monday for a speak with officer report. The caller advised that the previous night a man had purchased alcohol and given it to her juvenile son. Officers spoke with the juvenile who gave the man’s name and address, and the caller wanted to file charges against the man. Officers attempted to contact the man at the address but were unable to. The matter is under investigation.

–Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 11:29 a.m. Monday about an ongoing issue. Officers referred them to alternative sources of assistance and advised that the ongoing issues would be documented.

–Officers responded to the 200 block of East Fourth Street at 10:31 a.m. Monday for a reported person to be removed. The caller advised that there was a homeless man sleeping on their back porch and wanted him to leave. Officers located the man and advised him that he needed to leave, and the man left without incident.

–Officers responded to the 1200 block of East Sixth Street at 6:05 a.m. Monday for a reported noise complaint. Officers could hear the music from outside the building and advised the person to turn the music down.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of West Fifth Street at 1:43 a.m. Monday for a report of a possible prowler. The caller advised an unknown man was knocking on her door trying to get her to come outside but left, and that the man looked familiar and may live across the street. Officers located the man who advised that he had observed the rear hatch to the caller’s vehicle open, so he went over and knocked on the door to tell her and when she didn’t answer he closed the hatch and went home.

— Officers spoke with a suspicious person looking through a dumpster in the 400 block of East State Street at 11:57 p.m. who advised they were just looking for cigarettes.

— Officers responded to the 110 block of Maple Street at 10:49 p.m. Sunday for a reported domestic dispute. Officers resolved the matter, and the involved parties willingly separated for the night.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of Newgarden Avenue at 10:23 p.m. Sunday for a noise complaint. Officers were advised that the person in question had turned the music back up and was also knocking on his neighbor’s door. Officers spoke with the person in question advising him to turn the music down and leave his neighbors alone and to go inside his residence for the evening.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of Newgarden Avenue at 9:39 p.m. Sunday for a reported noise complaint. Officers could hear loud music while approaching from the roadway and spoke with the homeowner, advising him to turn the music down.

— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Maple Street at 9:37 p.m. Sunday for a reported person to be removed. Officers attempted to speak with the caller but they refused.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of North Lundy Avenue at 8:32 p.m. Sunday for a reported juvenile problem. Officers collected information about the matter.

— Officers responded to the first block of South Lincoln Avenue at 7:36 p.m. Sunday for a reported reckless operator. Officers checked the area and surrounding streets for the vehicle in question but were unable to locate it.

— Officers responded to the 1000 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 6:53 p.m. Sunday to speak with two people who were looking for transportation to Austintown. They were advised that they cannot hitchhike in the city and to reach out to friends or relatives for transportation.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of West Fifth Street at 6:12 p.m. Sunday for a report of damage done to a yard by a motor vehicle. Officers spoke with the caller and advised them to mount cameras on the property if possible so that if it occurs again, the person in question can be identified.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of East Fifth Street at 12:54 p.m. Sunday for a reported domestic dispute. Officers spoke with the caller and the male-half left prior to officers’ arrival. The matter is an ongoing issue between the two involved parties.

— Officers responded to the 1500 block of East Third Street at 11:14 a.m. Sunday for a report of unknown people trespassing on his property. The caller advised that an unknown person had damaged a tractor on his property and that he had also witnessed a person on the property at night. Officers advised them of their options for dealing with the situation.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 9:22 a.m. Sunday regarding issues with their neighbor, who they wanted trespassed from their property. The person filled out a trespass form and officers contacted the neighbor who signed the form as well.

— Officers responded to the 2900 block of East State Street at 8:16 a.m. Sunday for a reported reckless operator. Officers located the vehicle in question and spoke with the owner, advising them of the complaint, and everything checked okay.

— Officers responded to the railroad crossing on West Wilson Street after being flagged down by a person and advised a man was sitting near the tracks. Officers spoke with the man, who advised that he did not feel like harming himself and “kindly walked back toward his residence.”

— Officers responded to the area of West Sixth Street and West Fifth Street at 11:26 p.m. Saturday for a reported suspicious vehicle. Officers checked the area and several surrounding blocks but did not locate the vehicle in question.

Perry Township

— Officers spoke to a person by phone at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday who advised their elderly mother was scammed when they attempted to purchase a dog. She advised that her mother had bought a $300 Apple card and sent a photo of it to an unknown man who then requested more money and never gave them the dog.

— Officers responded to the intersection of Benton Road and U.S. Route 62 at 11:31 p.m. June 10 for a report of a traffic light malfunction. Officers found the light in question to be working correctly with no issues.

— Officers on patrol in the area of Egypt Road at 2:20 a.m. June 10 located a tree hanging in the roadway. The fire department responded and assisted with cutting and removing the tree.
