LISBON — In Columbiana County Municipal Court, cases against Brett Goughnour, 50, Shadyside, were bound over to the county grand jury for fourth-degree felony assault and misdemeanors of criminal damaging, resisting arrest, menacing and open container for allegedly attempting to assault a police officer while being placed into custody in the parking lot of the Wellsville McDonald’s restaurant on June 7. Police had been called to the lot for a person who appeared intoxicated sitting in his vehicle. He told officers he was intoxicated, then started making threats toward them. When he was taken out of the vehicle, he attempted to elbow an officer, then punched the other officer in the head. He was tased twice during the altercation. During the incident, Goughnour allegedly damaged an officer’s radio. He also allegedly had an open can of beer in the cupholder of his vehicle.
A case against Derek Calvin, 34, Canfield, was bound over to the county grand jury for second-degree felony burglary for allegedly forcing entry into a home in Fairfield Township on March 4, damaging household items, ransacking the home and stealing some items, with his car allegedly stuck in the rear yard and left there.
A preliminary/pretrial hearing was set July 3 for Melanie Gorby, 41, charged with fourth-degree felony menacing by stalking and misdemeanors of criminal mischief and criminal damaging for an alleged incident on April 14 when she parked at a nearby business before sneaking onto an Idaho Avenue, Perry Township property, returning to her vehicle, driving to the property and intentionally backing into the attached garage twice, allegedly causing $3,092 worth of damage to the structure and $1,918 worth of damage to the vehicle inside. She also used an account to contact the victim telling him his schedule and time frame of his daily activities, sending pictures of the victim’s residence and contacting him about the incident after it occurred.
A pretrial was set Sept. 30 for Heather McCarthy, 51, Hibbetts Mill Road, Wellsville, charged with two counts of domestic violence for allegedly physically attacking a man and a woman on June 16 in Yellow Creek Township.
Khalil Tookes, 29, Midland, Pa., was fined $350 and given a suspended 180-day jail term for assault amended from domestic violence, both misdemeanors, with a fifth-degree felony charge of strangulation dismissed at the prosecutor’s request. He was ordered to complete 25 hours community service and have no contact with the victim. Tookes was accused of grabbing a woman around the throat with his hands and dragging her around the yard after an argument on May 24 in East Liverpool.
Timothy Price, 22, West Main Street, East Palestine, was fined $300 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 179 days suspended and credit for one day served, for assault. He was ordered to complete 40 hours community service and to have no contact with the victim. Price was accused of throwing a fish at another man and approaching the victim with a knife during an argument on June 6 in East Palestine.
Daniel J. Smith, 35, Adler Street, East Liverpool, was fined $300 and given a suspended 180-day jail term for telecommunications harassment. He was ordered to complete 35 hours community service and to have no contact with the victim or a local car dealership. Smith was accused of sending threatening messages to the woman on July 25, 2024, which made her fearful that he would show up at her place of employment.
Shawn K. Shuba, 54, Bridgeville, Pa., was fined $850 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 178 days suspended and credit for two days served, for misdemeanors of engaging in prostitution, possession of criminal tools and improper handling of firearm in a motor vehicle amended from a fourth-degree felony improper handling of firearm in motor vehicle. He was ordered to complete 50 hours community service, a prostitution prevention course and a gun safety course. He was accused of responding to an undercover ad on a known prostitution website and arranging for sexual activity with females in exchange for $240, then driving to East Palestine on May 31 for the meeting. He possessed the phone used to make the arrangements and a loaded handgun was found in the driver’s door pocket, which he did not tell officers about.
Matthew Pyle, 47, Portersville, Pa., was fined $750 and given a suspended 90-day jail term for engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools. He was ordered to complete 20 hours community service and an education course. Pyle requested sexual conduct for an agreed upon price of $120 from an undercover agent, then drove to Salem on Jan. 16 for the meeting with the phone used to make the arrangements in his possession.
Thomas Fifer Sr., 52, Deerfield, was fined $1,000 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 179 days suspended and credit for one day served, for two counts of possessing criminal tools with one count amended from engaging in prostitution. Fifer was ordered to forfeit $140 for the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force and to complete 40 hours community service and a prostitution prevention course. He was accused of requesting sexual conduct for an agreed upon price of $140 from an undercover agent and driving to Salem for the meeting with the phone used to make the arrangements in his possession on Jan. 17. According to an affidavit, Fifer at the time was a volunteer firefighter in Portage County.
Desarae Callehan, 29, East Street, East Palestine, was fined $250 for disorderly conduct for fighting outside Rich Oil in Wellsville on Dec. 8, 2024.
Jakob Hendricks, 35, Cherry Street, Washingtonville, was fined $600 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 120 days suspended and an order to serve 60 days electronically monitored house arrest with work release, for three counts of theft. He was ordered to complete 30 hours community service and to have no contact with Salem Walmart. On May 15, 2023 in Washingtonville, Hendricks was accused of altering a woman’s personal checks to pay for an item and tried multiple times to pay for further items. On Dec. 31, 2021, Hendricks was accused of failing to scan and pay for $326 worth of items at the Salem Walmart.
A pretrial was set July 3 for Heather Bywaters, 44, Chester, W.Va., charged with theft for allegedly failing to scan and pay for 12 items totaling $57 at the Calcutta Walmart on May 28.
A pretrial was set June 23 for Cagney Springer, 36, Pennsylvania Avenue, East Liverpool, charged with disorderly conduct for allegedly playing loud music on June 12 in East Liverpool.
A pretrial was set Aug. 21 for Christopher Smith, 37, Waynesburg, charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle for allegedly borrowing a woman’s car and failing to return it Feb. 2 in Salem Township after being contacted multiple times to return the vehicle.
Zeeshan Samad, 31, West Seventh Street, Salem, was fined $875 and sentenced to 90 days in jail, with 87 days suspended and credit for three days served in a driver intervention program, for physical control amended from operating a vehicle impaired at the request of the prosecutor. His driver’s license was suspended for one year, with driving privileges granted.
A pretrial was set Oct. 7 for Joseph Yohman, 21, Edinburg, Pa., charged with OVI first offense and reasonable control.
Neevah Raya, 20, Academy Street, Salineville, was fined $280 for reckless operation, no seat belt, reasonable control and speeding. A charge of no valid license was dismissed.
Brianne Lou Trump, 33, Center Street, Lisbon, was fined $805 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 175 days suspended, leaving a balance of five days still to serve in jail for speeding, no seat belt and two counts driving under suspension. She was ordered to complete 40 hours community service.
April Yurkovich, 39, Canfield, was fined $100 for an equipment violation amended from speeding.
Ian Dawson, 39, Washington, Pa., was fined $50 for speeding.
Reva McCullough, 34, Sunset Lane, East Liverpool, was fined $200 for driving under suspension.
Charges of driving under suspension and expired license plates were dismissed against George Petties III, 40, Clark Avenue, Wellsville.
A pretrial was set Oct. 9 for Robyn Wornoff, 36, Garfield Heights, charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving under suspension and a stop sign violation.
A pretrial was set Aug. 28 for Patrick Macella, 32, Lowellville, charged with speeding.

LISBON — A former Wellsville man accused of assaulting a jail employee in January was sentenced to nine months in prison, to be served following his current 11-month sentence for a probation violation.
Thomas Holman, 44, now listed as homeless, appeared recently in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court where he entered a guilty plea to fifth-degree felony assault for knowingly causing or attempting to cause physical harm to a man who was an employee of a local correctional facility on Jan. 22.
At the time of the incident, Holman was an inmate at the Columbiana County jail with a probation revocation hearing pending. Since then, in February, he was sentenced to 11 months in prison for violating his probation on a protection order violation charge.
Altogether, his total prison term is now 20 months.
Also in Common Pleas Court:
— Samuel Masters Jr., 49, Dresden Avenue, East Liverpool, was sentenced to 36 months in prison after pleading guilty to failure to provide notice of change of address, a third-degree felony, with credit for 56 days already served. Masters failed to notify the sheriff’s office of his change of address for his sex offender registration on Jan. 23.
— Eugene Arcuragi, 71, Toronto, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for lesser-included offenses of third-degree felony attempted felonious assault and fourth-degree felony trespass in a habitation. He was originally charged with first-degree felony aggravated burglary and felonious assault, a second-degree felony for trespassing in a residence with the purpose to commit felonious assault on April 19, 2024, causing harm to a man.
— Shane Laflame, 24, South Union Avenue, Salem, pleaded guilty to fourth-degree felony carrying a concealed weapon and misdemeanor aggravated menacing, with sentencing set for Aug. 21. Laflame was accused of pulling out a knife and having his hands toward a victim during an incident at the Foundry on South Broadway Avenue in Salem on Dec. 19, 2024. An affidavit said police were called there for a fight, with the incident caught on video security footage. The victim told police the defendant thrust the knife toward him.
— Seth Mora, 31, New Brighton, Pa., was sentenced to 12 months in prison for misdemeanor domestic violence and aggravated assault, a fourth-degree felony lesser-included offense of the original charge of second-degree felony felonious assault. He received credit for four days served in jail. He was accused of choking a woman during a domestic on Jan. 27, 2024 in East Liverpool.
— Christian Bradford, 28, Canton, was placed under community control for three years during sentencing for aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, for possessing methamphetamine on Sept. 9, 2023. He was also ordered to serve 30 days in jail, with credit for one day served, leaving a balance of 29 days still to serve in jail as part of the community control.
— Thomas Hughes, 37, state Route 154, Negley, pleaded guilty to two counts of nonsupport of dependents, a fifth-degree felony, with sentencing set for Aug. 15, for failing to pay child support for two children from Jan. 8, 2023 to Jan. 5, 2025.
— Joshua Marshall, 37, Boardman, was placed under community control for three years during sentencing for fifth-degree felony theft, with credit for one day served in jail. He was also ordered to make restitution of $3,800. Marshall was accused of stealing money from another man from June 14, 2024 to June 16, 2023.

LISBON — Frank Aracich, 52, Sophia Street, East Liverpool, was served Monday with a secret indictment issued by the Columbiana County Grand Jury for aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, for allegedly possessing methamphetamine on Aug. 2, 2024.
