Highway Patrol

— The investigation into a three-vehicle hit-skip crash in West Township still is underway. An unknown vehicle fled state Route 172, while westbound at 11:25 a.m. Oct. 16 after going left of center and striking the mirror of an eastbound vehicle driven by Bruce McCormick, of Akron. McCormick’s mirror flew back and hit the windshield of the vehicle behind him driven by Shannon Norris of Louisville.

— Bryce Foster, of Seigler Road in Salineville, was cited at 12:51 a.m. Oct. 21 in Wayne Township for failure to control, after his vehicle drove off the right side of the road while southbound and hit two utility poles and a traffic sign.

— Katherine Brennan, of Willow Lane in Wellsville, was cited at 1:35 p.m. Oct. 18 in Unity Township for improper backing, after she backed out of a private driveway onto Padgett Road and struck Joshua Batchelor, of Adams Road in East Palestine.

— David Yoder, U.S. Route 30 in Kensington, was cited at 11:19 a.m. Oct. 23 in Hanover Township for an unsecure load, after his load shifted while eastbound on U.S. Route 30 and struck Brad Koah, of Ellett Road in Beloit.

Salem

— Officers responded to the area of South Lincoln Avenue at 3:57 a.m. Friday for a report of a gas-powered bike operating in a closed section of the roadway. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate them.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of West Pershing Street at 1:42 a.m. Friday for a reported fight. The caller advised that they heard people breaking stuff and screaming. Officers attempted contact at the residence, but nobody answered the door. Everything was quiet at that time.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Walnut Street at 10:38 p.m. Thursday for a reported assault. The caller advised that they were assaulted by a woman in the building, and officers spoke with a woman who had a conflicting story. Officers will obtain a written statement on the incident and send it to the prosecutor for potential charges. No injuries were observed or reported.

— Officers responded to the 2300 block of Painter Road at 6:45 p.m. Thursday for a report of debris in the roadway. Officers stood by until a Perry Township officers arrived due to it being in their jurisdiction.

— Officers responded to the area of Sharp Avenue and West State Street at 5:46 p.m. Thursday for a report by the Ohio State Highway Patrol that the vehicle of a missing was picked up on one of the city’s cameras heading westbound. Officers attempted to locate the vehicle, but it was nowhere to be found.

— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Allen Road at 4:22 p.m. Thursday for a wellness check on a man slumped over the wheel. Officers spoke with the man, who was sleeping in the car and advised that he was fine and just likes to watch the trains.

— The school resource officer was advised of an issue that occurred the day prior by school administrators at 11:30 a.m. Thursday. The incident had occurred after school and had been inappropriate on school grounds in front of students and parents while leaving the school. All information was gathered for the report, and the incident was caught on school cameras.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of West State Street at 10:22 a.m. Thursday for a reported stolen trailer. The caller advised that they believed that it had been taken late the prior evening, and officers entered the trailer’s information to a database for stolen property and provided the caller with a report number.

— Officers assisted the housing department, Columbiana County Drug Enforcement Task Force and Special Response Team members with serving a warrant in the 500 block of Granite Avenue at 8:44 a.m. Thursday. Two individuals were removed from the residence due to it still being unfit for human habitation.

— Officers responded to the 700 block of West Wilson Street at 7:46 a.m. Thursday for a reported unruly juvenile. The guardian was in the hospital and had another family member help care for the juvenile. The family member advised that the juvenile was being unruly, and officers spoke with the juvenile and advised them to cease their unruly behavior.

— Officers responded to the 2200 block of East Pershing Street at 7:19 a.m. Thursday for a report of littering. Officers observed what appeared to be some personal belongings such as hygiene and hair care products and a blanket being left near a dumpster. Officers attempted to locate an ID but were unsuccessful.

— Officers responded to the 2500 block of Lexington Avenue at 7:13 a.m. Thursday for a reported 911 call from a juvenile. Dispatch was unable to obtain information from the call, and upon discovering that it was not an emergency, the juvenile was educated on the importance of when to call 911.

Leetonia

— An officer sitting stationary at 7:17 p.m. Oct. 21 near the Leetonia High School was approached by an elderly male seeking directions.

— Police witnessed a verbal argument between a male and female at 9:48 p.m. Oct. 30 near the first block of Walnut Street. No physical altercation had occurred.

— Police responded at 1:19 a.m. Oct. 30 to the first block of Commerce Street, where a man had hit his head while having a seizure. EMT arrived and transported him for medical attention when he regained consciousness.

— A suitcase containing adult and children’s clothing found at 5:54 p.m. Oct. 26 while on routine patrol near the Dairy Queen was put in to the lost and found at the police station.

— Officers assisted with the evacuation of residents in the area of Main, Elm and the 100 block of Walnut Street at 11:30 p.m. Oct. 28 for a reported gas leak and stood by until fire investigators arrived.

— An officer investigated a swerving vehicle shortly after midnight Oct. 26 near Beeson Mill and state Route 344. He was valid and didn’t appear to be under the influence nor commit any moving violations while followed by police.

— Police responded to a complaint about a suspicious male pounding on doors at 8:30 p.m. Oct. 23 in the 200 block of Oak Street. The male was a resident of the address and didn’t not divulge anything specific.

— Mark Hayes, of Phoenix, was arrested at 9:02 p.m. Oct. 23 on Industry Street on charges of assault on a police officer, obstruction of official business and disorderly conduct, after police responded to a call about a disabled semi. Hayes refused to exit the cab, preventing handcuffing after repeatedly directing insults and profanities to investigating officers. After an officer climbed on the side of the cab in an attempt to grab and cuff Hayes, Hayes pushed the officer from the cab onto the roadway, where he landed on his back. Finally at taserpoint from the officer’s backup, Hayes complied to cuffing but still peppered the encounter with profanity.

— Police investigated a suspicious vehicle at 8:44 p.m. Oct. 21 outside the mennonite church. The children’s ministry had just been working late.

— Ryan Yingit, of Lake Milton, and his passenger were given a courtesy transport from to Sheetz in Columbiana, after it was discovered during a traffic stop that he unknowingly was operating the vehicle without a valid license. He was given verbal warnings for speeding and driving without a valid license, as his efforts to reinstate his license hadn’t been completed yet in Mahoning County.
