Kathy L. Lanza

COLUMBIANA – Kathy L. Lanza, 70, of Columbiana, formerly of Leetonia, died Saturday, July 14, 2018 at her home.

Kathy was born Nov. 26, 1947 in Warren, Ohio, the daughter of the late Charles J. and Clementine (Toots) Manna Lanza, coming to Leetonia in 1952. She attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School and was a 1966 graduate of the Leetonia High School.

She worked in her family’s grocery store, the former Main Street Market for many years. She began her healthcare service as an aide at the former Salem Convalescent Center in Salem. She later became an LPN, working at the former Diamondhead Nursing Home in North Lima. She attended nursing school at the St. Elizabeth Nursing School and earned her BSN in 1992 from Youngstown State University. She was then employed as a nurse supervisor at the Caprice Heathcare Center, North Lima until her retirement in 2010 due to illness.

Kathy was a member of St. Jude Roman Catholic Church, Columbiana and loved to cook, taking food to her many friends. Her lifelong friends will remember her as loyal, kind and generous to all she met. She was a cancer survivor and lived life to the fullest and especially enjoyed her many pets.

She is survived by two brothers, Thomas E. (Lettie) Lanza of Beaumont, TX and Jay Lanza of Columbiana; three nieces, Jennifer (Jason) Lanza-Linn of Salem, Carrie (Matt) Schreffler of Poland, and Stephanie Lanza of Palm Desert, CA; a nephew, Thomas Lanza, Jr. of Palm Desert, CA; a great niece, Hannah Lanza, two great nephews, Noah Schreffler and Aaron Lehde; and a great-great niece, Elly Demsky.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles J. Lanza, Jr.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018 at St. Jude Roman Catholic Church, Columbiana, with Father Christopher Cicero officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Leetonia. Friends may call at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial tributes may be made to the St. Jude Roman Catholic Church.
