Charles Walter Stearns

CANFIELD — Charles Walter Stearns, 89, of Canfield (Green Twp.), died at his home early Wednesday morning.

He was born on Oct. 13, 1929 in New Albens, Ohio, a son of Chester and Gladys (Smith) Stearns.

He had been a resident of Beloit for 33 years, then moved in 1991 to a farm in Canfield.

A 1948 graduate of Sebring High School, he worked at Mullins Mfg. in Salem, then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and served in France. He returned to work at American Fire Clay for 15 years then retired in 1991 from Babcock-Wilcox in Alliance.

He is survived by his children, Kenny (Carla) Stearns of Pennsylvania, Dorothy Stearns of Canfield, Rita (Fred) Lohman of Salineville and Beverly McIntyre of Alliance; a sister, Sally Wilson of Damascus; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem.

The Salem Honor Guard will offer military honors on Saturday at 7 p.m., followed by Pastor Kari Lankford officiating. He will be buried on Monday morning at Highland Memorial Park, Beloit. A time of visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday.
