Miriam Ruth Pennell Archibald

EAST PALESTINE– Miriam Ruth Pennell Archibald, 93, died Tuesday, July 2.

Miriam was born in New Brighton, Pa., on March 19, 1926, to the late Paul C. and Margery (Milnes) Pennell, Beaver Falls, Pa. She graduated as valedictorian from Darlington High School in Pennsylvania in 1944. In 1945, she was employed as a military pay clerk with the USO in Georgia during World War II. In 1948, she received a B.A. in English from Geneva College, Beaver Falls, Pa., and had a short career as an English teacher and a social worker in Pennsylvania.

She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church.

Miriam married the love of her life, Regis N. Archibald, of East Palestine on Sept. 11, 1948, and he predeceased her on March 19, 1994, after 46 years of marriage.

Miriam has six children, Karen (Richard) Mitchell, Deborah (Ronald) Orenic, both deceased, David (Karen) Archibald, Paul (Cindy) Archibald, Christine (Dean) Morrison and Michael (Missy) Archibald. She also leaves 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Words of remembrance to be said by the family at 10:45 a.m. with a funeral Mass to follow at 11 a.m. Monday, July 8, at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with Father Christopher Cicero serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends and relatives will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Linsley-Royal Funeral Home, East Palestine.
