Together again

Warren Edward “Ernie” Ford, 75, of Salem (formerly of the E. Palestine area) died Thursday, January 14, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Hospital/Mercy Medical Boardman.

He was born on August 25, 1945 in Salem, the son of the late Warren H. and Marie M. (Sutherin) Ford.

He was a lifetime area resident and a graduate of E. Palestine High School. Ernie worked at GM Lordstown as a die setter for 32 years until his retirement on July 1, 1998. He served in the Signal Corps in the US Army during the Vietnam War, and later served in the Military Police Corps before leaving the service and returning to the Salem area.

Ernie had many interests in life. He loved cars, owning many through the years, and was an avid Corvette enthusiast. He enjoyed cruises and trips to Las Vegas, a destination he visited more than a dozen times. In fact, he married his sweetheart Sherry L (Bruderly) Ford in Las Vegas in 1995. Ernie liked spending time with the crew at the Washingtonville VFW Post 5532, American Legion Post 131 in Leetonia and Salem AmVets Post 45.

He is survived by his son, Warren (Darcy) Ford II of Oklahoma, step children, Julie (Breen) Shea, Mary Theil and Kimberly (Dave) Tohm all of Columbiana and Brian Theil of Rockville, Maryland. He had four grandchildren, Ashley (Aaron) Bussard, Kenny (Diana) Shea, Hailey Tohm and Alyssa Tohm, and one great grandchild Noah Bussard. He also leaves behind two siblings, Nancy (Robert) Flickinger of Salem and George (Lisa) Ford of Cocoa Beach, FL as well as his beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Sherry who passed in 2016.

There will be private services for the family with military honors from the Salem Honor Guard. The Pastor Kari Lankford will be officiating the services at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen and Sons Funeral and Cremation Services followed by burial in Grandview Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a date and time to be announced.
