Carol J. Gorby
NEW WATERFORD — Carol J. Gorby, a lifelong resident of New Waterford, passed away January 8, 2022, at Covington Skilled Nursing in East Palestine.
Carol was born December 20, 1930, in East Palestine, daughter of the late George and Ethel Schultz Hartman.
She was a graduate of East Palestine High School and a lifelong faithful member of the East Palestine First Church of Christ. She was a former member of DORCAS and the church choir. Carol also taught the Ladies Friendship Sunday School class for over 30 years. She was a stay-at-home mom, raising her children. Carol loved her family, GOD and her church family.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years April 10, 2001, Alvin Gorby, they married November 11, 1948. She was the 6th of seven children, all daughters, Clara Hartman, Ethel Flemming, Viola Peterson, Durita Ward, Edna Blower and Ruth Hartman, all preceded her in death.
Carol is survived by three children; Diana (Allan) Riggs of Rockledge, FL., Darlene (Cliff) Riley of East Palestine, Danny L. (Maria) Gorby of Norwich, CT; six grandchildren, Travis (Cindy) Riggs of Leesburg,VA, Jason (Shari) Riggs of Coraopolis, PA, Christopher (Dawn) Baltputnis of Canal Winchester, OH, Stephanie (Bill) Spratt of Powder Springs, GA, Carolyn (Darren) Evangelista of Agawam, MA, Joseph Gorby of Taftville, CT and 11 great grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for the spring at her church and will be announced at a later date. A private burial will take place alongside her husband at Crest Haven Memorial Gardens in New Waterford.
