Census is still waiting; do your part, fill it out

Had a lot on your mind lately? You’re not alone. The past several months have been difficult for all resident across our area, our state and our entire nation as a deadly virus and our response to it has changed the way we interact with each other — and has placed many of us into a state of financial struggle.

It makes sense, then, that some Ohio residents are falling behind in taking care of an important responsibility: participation in the 2020 Census. If you have already done your part, good for you. That is what being a good citizen encompasses.

As a whole, Ohio has response rates that surpass the national average; but there are pockets in which we need to pick up the pace.

An accurate count of residents is the best way to ensure we are receiving the federal funding and representation we deserve.

Certainly there are plenty of recent examples of the great need our region has for federal money to help us address community need. Imagine federal officials determining we should receive less because data collected during the census showed we have fewer people living in our region than we do. That we be a downright shame.

From the 2020 Census website: “Why is the census so important? The results are used to determine how much funding local communities receive for key public services and how many seats each state gets in Congress. State and local officials also use census counts to draw boundaries for congressional, state legislative, and school districts.”

We cannot afford to mess this one up, folks. If you have not already done so, respond to the census questionnaire, now. We are counting on you. Do your part, fill it out and send it in. Takes but a few mintues.
