Impeach DeWine? Sheer ridiculousness!
We suspect Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine would agree to some extent with critics of his handling of the COVID-19 epidemic. Has he made mistakes? Of course. Who hasn’t?
But do DeWine’s errors rise to the level of mistakes requiring that he be removed from office? Don’t be ridiculous.
Three members of the Ohio House of Representatives are being ridiculous. They are suggesting DeWine should be impeached. That would be the first step in attempting to remove him from office.
State Rep. John Becker, R-Cincinnati, says he has drafted 10 articles of impeachment against DeWine. Two other Republican representatives, Nino Vitale of Urbana and Paul Zeltwanger of Mason, are supporting Becker.
Becker summed up his complaint in one sentence: “With deaths and hospitalizations from COVID-19 flattened, the governor continues to press his boot on the throat of Ohio’s economy.”
Read into that what you will. Just don’t interpret it as a legitimate complaint. As of Monday, health officials listed 19,977 Ohioans still trying to recover from COVID-19. That is hardly cause for celebration — or impeachment. Becker and his chums should drop their absurd proposal.
