YOUR SIDE: The Readers Take Over

Thanks to all backing the Arby’s Car Cruise and Salem Super Cruise

To the editor:

We would like to say “thank you” to all the businesses in the area that supported our Arby’s Car Cruise and city of Salem Super Cruise 2016 season, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to 11 food panties in Columbiana County. We had over 100 sponsors donating one item or some sponsors donating items each week to be used as door prizes or to the used in our Chinese auction at events throughout the year.

We would also like to say “thank you” to all the car cruisers that support this, May through October 2016, and a special thanks to the 11 “food pantries people” who volunteer their time each week to set up and tear down equipment, and help with the Arby’s Car Cruise and Salem Super Cruise.

We would like to say “thank you” to Blossom Nursing and Rehabilitation, Brookdale Assisted Living, Parkside Health Center, Copeland Oaks Assisted Living and Nursing, Whispering Pines Village and Covington Skilled Nursing, for allowing us to have car shows at their locations for their residents. It is great to hear the stories from the residents about the cars they have owned, or the cars that their parents owned, or the car they drove on their first date.

A special thanks to Arby’s Foundation from Atlanta, Ga., for a $5,000 food grant, Salem Tire Service for donating Goodyear Blimp ride tickets for a fundraiser, and Jackson Auto Supply (NAPA) for donating a 1960 restored gas pump for a fundraiser. And the Salem News, Morning Journal and The Review for their local coverage.

We were able to donate over $29,000 to these 11 food banks of Columbiana County through the Second Harvest Food Bank of Mahoning County. Our group has donated over an estimated 1,353,361 pounds of food since we started in 2010.

We could not have done this without the support of many, and we cannot say “thank you” enough to all of you for your kindness, support and donations. We are looking forward to doing it again in the summer of 2017. We have 54 events planned through the summer of 2017 and we hope you will join in a few.

If you would like to donate any item for door prizes or raffle to help us raise much needed funds for these 10 communities, please contact me and I will have a local food pantry pick it up from you. These at the 10 communities we will support in 2017: Beloit, Columbiana, East Liverpool Salvation Army, East Palestine, Leetonia, Lisbon, New Waterford, Salem Salvation Army, Salineville and Winona.
