USPS and Postal Union food drive a success

To the editor:

On Saturday, May 13, the USPS and all Postal Unions conducted the Annual Food Drive. This is a national event and it was our 25th year of collecting canned goods and non-perishable foods to be stored in each community’s local pantries.

This year both First Friends and the Salem Community Food Pantry were able to enjoy over 4800 lbs. of donations from you, the local residents and businesses. This selfless contribution exceeded last year’s by over 300 lbs.! Thank you to all that participated, we really couldn’t have done it without you.

A special thanks goes out to the friends and family of fellow postal employees who volunteered their time and efforts. Without the help of the Salem Fire Department, we wouldn’t have been able to transport it all to the post office in a timely manner and still perform our daily delivery duties.

Thank you to all the local business establishments that donated pizza, subs, and other food and beverage to fuel the volunteers throughout the day. Because of Marco’s Pizza, Gezo’s Pizza, Subway, East of Chicago and Pizza Joe’s, everyone had the energy and stamina to transport those donations all the way to their final destinations.

Thank you again Salem for your dedication to caring for and supporting those in your community that are in need. It’s been a blessing to have been a part of this event for the past two years.

May you continue to share in your good fortune with those around you. God bless.
