Dismayed over the Salem stadium name change
To the editor:
I am dismayed at the announcement that I read in the Salem News regarding the renaming of Reilly Stadium to Sebo Stadium.
I feel that an important part of Salem history is being lost for the sake of a few dollars. The citizens of Salem have been supporting the stadium since it was first built and have been maintaining it with their donations ever since. Both Salem school alumni and the citizens of Salem have contributed to maintaining the history and integrity of our town’s landmark without expecting public recognition for their efforts.
I feel that if the naming rights for the stadium were available, the Salem School Board would have made that intention known to the community. In doing so, the people could have been given the opportunity to respond. All of us are aware of the hidden gems in Salem — its people — those in the past and those who today continue to support our schools for the benefit of us all.
