A message for the St. Paul community

To the editor:

Dear Alumni, Friends, and supporters of St. Paul School:

The St. Paul School Foundation is reaching out to the St. Paul School family with a message of hope and prayer during this difficult time. We extend our heartfelt concern and sympathy to any family who has suffered from COVID-19.

To those whose livelihoods have been impacted, we express our deepest consolation and hope that all are able to find help and persevere through this hardship. We pray that government leaders and medical professionals who are managing this crisis will be guided with wisdom and compassion to see that our nation is made whole again.

St. Paul School closed on March 15 and will be closed through the end of the school year. But it continues to educate its students by way of eLearning over the Internet using Zoom video conferencing and other technologies.

Several recruitment, outreach, and fundraising activities scheduled this spring including taste of pizza, touch-a-truck, and the live and silent auction have been cancelled. Many of the school’s educational activities prior to closing are posted on its Facebook page, St. Paul School.

A number of alumni and friends who work in the medical field are on the front lines of this crisis, treating those who have contracted the disease and supporting the work of hospitals, physicians, and public health officials.

Visit the Salem Ohio St. Paul School Alumni and Friends Facebook page to learn about these individuals. We are proud of them. Please let us know if you or other members of the St. Paul School family are also involved in combatting the novel coronavirus.

Public worship at St. Paul Church has been curtailed through at least May 3. In the meantime, the 4:30 p.m. Saturday Mass is live-streamed on the parish’s Facebook page, St Paul Salem Ohio. Bulletins are available on the parish website. The church is open daily between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. for short visits with appropriate social distancing.

The Saint Paul School Foundation continues its financial support of the school thanks to the generous contributions of many of you. Since 1990 the foundation has contributed $1,468,000 in support of the school and its students. You can follow the foundation on Facebook at St. Paul School Foundation.

In spite of these difficult times, we remain hopeful that with the help of its dedicated and loyal alumni, friends, and supporters, St. Paul School will continue to provide an exceptional, Christ-centered education to the children of the Salem area. We are proud to count each of you as part of the St. Paul School family.

May you and your family remain safe, healthy, and secure in our Lord’s care.

Sincerely in St. Paul School,

The St. Paul School Foundation
