Urges voters to support park district levy
To the editor:
Our Columbiana County Park District is seeking a modest quarter-percent of one mill levy to make improvements and maintain the county’s current assets.
For only about 73 cents per month on a $100,000 home we can continue make our county a great place to live with excellent outdoor recreational opportunities.
I have personally visited many places around Ohio that have embraced and invested in their natural resource assets to create local economic engines. For decades, their outdoor recreation has helped small, independent business thrive and contribute even more to help make their communities quality places to be and visit.
From Hocking Hills, Mohican Valley, Little Miami Valley Scenic River area, Geneva to the small but mighty Knox County/Mt. Vernon area hike, bike and water trails. I have described these places as communities that “found their bootstraps and didn’t wait on Washington or Columbus to help get moving.”
We are quietly doing that here in Columbiana County, but we have so much more potential. As individuals we can make a difference. And part of that starts with the supporting a small levy that can bring in outside money to make investments in our county. By repairing and expanding our existing bike trail to improving access to other natural wonders these are investments that provide both solace and economic activity.
