Salem Hunting Club fundraiser a success

To the editor:

The Salem Hunting Club held its 18th annual Memorial Trap Shoot and Breakfast Aug. 7. This event is the annual fundraiser for the Lowell Idr-Larry Iler Scholarships. Four scholarships were presented to area students.

This year’s recipients were:

Elizabeth Shontz, daughter of Robert and Gail Shonz from Salem. She will be attending Western Michigan University for Land and Marine Conservation.

Von Herron from Salem, son of Jay and Pamela Herron, will be studying Agriculture Systems Management at The Ohio State University.

Aaron Hinchliffe, son of William and Jodie Hinchliffe of Lisbon, will be majoring in Agriculture Analyst of Hormone Free Foods at Kent State University.

Olivia Knauf of Hanoverton, daughter of Cheryl and Jason Knauf, will be a junior at Youngstown State University.

The winner of the 50/50 was Ron Jennings of Salem.

The number of people who made this a big success this year is many. Thanks to members, family, merchants, general public and the Salem News.

The Hunting Club is proud to honor the two special men in whose memories the scholarships are named – Lowell Iden and Larry Iler. They were friends and longtime officers of our club.

Twenty-five members of Lowell Iden’s family attended this event, traveling from Florida, South Carolina, Philadelphia, Pa. And the surrounding area.
