Salem Township Trustee responds

To the editor:

Recently there have been some allegations regarding decisions made in the past by Salem Township Trustees.

In the matter of action taken of our township constable, the trustees acted solely on the legal advice received from the Columbiana County Prosecutor’s Office.

Regarding our response to the Cares Act funds, we have always worked conservatively. The stipulations provided for using these funds were somewhat vague and repercussions for not using the funds correctly had serious consequences.

Our current installment payment of American Rescue funds is on deposit and we are in discussion of eligible situations that we legally can take advantage of it in the future.

Finally, the elected position of township trustees is and has always been a nonpartisan position and should not be subject to partisan politics.

BILL HESTON,

Salem Township Trustees,

Salem
