Baseball

Minerva 12, Salem 4

MINERVA - Minerva scored seven runs in the first three innings and held off Salem 12-4 Tuesday in NBC baseball action. Leading the Lions was Keanan Locke with two hits including a double and four RBIs. Locke also got the win on the hill striking out six in a complete game.

For Salem, Keaton O'Brien had two hits and an RBI. Seth Leininger scored two runs, and Alex Brant had two hits including a triple and a run batted in.

Salem (1-8, 0-5 NBC) plays today at Hubbard.

BELOIT - West Branch's Ryan Adams hit a two-out single to score Matt Unkefer in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie Canton South, and the Warriors would go on to win 7-6 in 10 innings. Unkefer finished 3-for-5 with two doubles. Adams had two hits, a run scored and an RBI.

Jeff Vizzuso got the win for West Brnach in four innings of relief striking out three. Jake Mull went six innings and struck out seven.

West Branch (5-4, 3-2 NBC) hosts Canton Central Catholic today.

COLUMBIANA - Columbiana dropped East Palestine 18-5 in six innings Tuesday. Leading the Clippers was Hank Schlueter who went 3-for-5 with a double and four runs scored. Garret Patrick also went 3-for-5 with four runs scored, and Dustin Daugherty had two hits including a triple and two runs score.

For East Palestine, Alec Dumbauld had two singles and two stolen bases. Nate Keylor added two hits including a double and two stolen bases.

COLUMBIANA - Crestview dropped United 19-5 in five innings Tuesday. Leading the Rebels (3-3, 2-1 ITCL Tier 1) was Brandon Jayne with three hits including a double and three RBIs. Austin Eskra added three hits and two RBIs, Adam Coppock had three hits and an RBI, and Alex DeSalvo and Nate Climo both had two hits and two RBIs.

Softball

Carrollton 14, Salem 13

CARROLLTON - Salem led Carrollton 9-3 but the Lady Warriors rallied for a 14-13 win in eight innings Tuesday. The Lady Quakers walked 12 batters and committed four errors and lost despite out-hitting Carrollton 12-10.

For Salem, Katie McDevitt had two doubles and five RBIs. Deanna Walker added to her home run record (9) and also socked a single and drove in two. Kaylin Wood had two singles and an RBI. Alexis Smith and Sami Reedy both had two singles, and Tyler Schrader and Morgan Crosser both hit singles.

Salem (2-8, 2-3 NBC) hosts Alliance Thursday and Hubbard Friday.

LOUISVILLE - West Branch fell in a road contest to Louisville 15-5 in five innings Tuesday. The Lady Leopards scored nine runs to break open a 6-5 game in the bottom of the fifth.

For Louisville (10-2, 5-0 NBC) Gianna Falcone had two hits including a triple, home run and drove in six. The Lady Leopards hit three home runs.

For West Branch, Bailey McElwain had two hits and three RBIs. Kaylie Lewis had two hits, and Reagan Rito and Emily Weber added a hit and an RBI each.

West Branch (6-5, 3-2 NBC) hosts Marlington Thursday.

HANOVERTON - United's Krista McCartney struck out 17 batters and surrendered only four hits as United beat Crestview 3-0 Tuesday.

Taylor Smith had a single and two RBIs for the Lady Eagles. Cassidy Yoder added a hit and a run scored.

For Crestview (3-4, 0-4 ITCL Tier 1), Adrienne Huston had a single and double.

Both teams will meet again today at United.

HANOVERTON - The United boys and girls track teams both won tri-meets against Leetonia and Wellsville Tuesday. The Eagles tallied 104 to Wellsville's 42 and Leetonia's 17, while the Lady Eagles tallied 109 to Wellville's 33 and Leetonia's 14.

United's Tyler Miller won the discus (125-4) and shot put (43-11), and Riley Fillman took the 110-hurdles (16.1), 300-hurdles (45.1) and long jump (17-10).

For the girls, United's Allison Parks won the 800 (2:43.9) and the 1600 (5:35.6), and Angela Judy won the 100-hurdles (18.8) and 300-hurdles (57.5).

EAST PALESTINE - The East Palestine boys and Columbiana girls triumphed at tri-meets Tuesday. The Bulldogs tallied 58 points to Columbiana's 44 and Lisbon's 40. The Lady Clippers totaled 72 points to Lisbon's 45.5 and East Palestine's 35.5.

East Palestine's Jake DiCello won the 100 (11.3) and 200 (24.5). Lisbon's Chad Bosel tok the 800 (2:09.7) and 1600 (5:02), and Columbiana's Jared Hill won the 110-hurdles (18.5) and 300-hurdles (47.6).

For the girls, Columbiana's Sara Saverko won the 100 (14.2) and 3200 (13:23.9), and Abbie Dunlap won the shot put (32-8.5) and discus (112-3). Lisbon's Carmen Phillips won the 800 (2:37.5) and 1600 (5:59.9).

COLUMBIANA - The South Range track teams dropped McDonald and Crestview in a tri-meet Tuesday.

The Raiders totaled 90 points to McDonald's 78 and Crestview's 70.

The Lady Raiders totaled 113 points to McDonald's 88 and Crestview's 33.

South Range's Brynn Lay set a record in the 100-hurdles with a time of 16.6. Lay also won the 300 hurdles (51.7).

Andrew O'Leary also set a record for the Raiders in the 400 (51.9).

Carrollton vs. Salem

CARROLLTON - Salem defeated Carrollton in jayvee softball action 27-3 Tuesday. Leading Salem was Hannah Carner with three hits including a double and triple with four RBIs. Haley Carner added three hits and three RBIs. Raegan Meals had three hits including a double and three RBIs.

Courtney Waters got the win for the Lady Quakers throwing a one-hitter with six strikeouts.

Salem (7-3, 4-1 NBC) will host Alliance Thursday.

Louisville vs. West Branch

BELOIT - Louisville dropped West Branch by an astounding 27-23 margin Tuesday in jayvee softball action. For the Warriors, Jeni Stewart had a home run, double and single, and Sara Weber doubled and singled.
