SALEM - Charles F. Mello, 94, of Salem, died at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2012 at the Salem Care Center.
He was born Nov. 22, 1917 in Ashtabula, Ohio, the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Silva) Mello.
Mr. Mello worked for 18 years at the Ashtabula Bow Socket Company in the plating department. He returned to Salem in 2001 from Florida where he had resided for 25 years.
Charles was a member of the St. Paul Catholic Church in Salem. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific and was the recipient of three bronze stars.
His wife, Virginia H. (Henceroth) Mello, whom he married Aug. 30, 1947, preceded him in death Oct. 7, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Veronica King and Genevieve Edson.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11a.m. on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the services. Interment will be at the Highland Memorial Park in Beloit.
