Breakfast with Santa planned
NEGLEY - Breakfast with Santa will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Middleton Township Fish and Game Club at 50501 Richardson Ave. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children ages 12 and under. Breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, hashbrowns, juice, milk and coffee. Horse-drawn carriage rides are available for $2. Photo expert plans visit
COLUMBIANA - Photo expert Andy "A.J." Boyd will visit the Columbiana Public Library from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6. Boyd studied under Eastman Kodak Company for lighting, film manufacture and development. He started a career in photography in the early 1950s doing commercial and advertising photography for Cleveland and New York agencies. Boyd splits his time between Bradenton, Fla., and Columbiana. Giving Tree set up at hospital
SALEM - Local residents can honor their loved ones and contribute to a good cause by donating to the Salem Community Hospital Charitable Foundation's Giving Tree. Each donation will be recognized with an ornament on a tree in the hospital's main lobby. Donors are invited to attend the annual holiday illumination which begins at 7 p.m. Thursday.

'Senior Night' designated
COLUMBIANA - Dec. 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. has been designated as "Senior Night" at the Joy of Christmas light display sponsored by the Columbiana Area Tourism Bureau. Admission to the light show at Firestone Park is $5 if you have a senior citizen (age 55 and older) in your vehicle. A free gift will also be given to each senior who attends. The musical duet "Silver and Gold" will perform at Santa's Ice Castle at the end of the light path.

Sheriff's Office Toy Drive set
LISBON - The third annual Columbiana County Sheriff's Office Toy Drive benefiting Akron Children's Hospital will continue until Dec. 13. Donations of unwrapped gifts may be made from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Columbiana County Sheriff's Office in the basement of the Columbiana County Courthouse.
Donations also will be accepted at any time in the basement at the Columbiana County Sheriff's Office in the county jail at 8374 County Home Road.
It's a fact that there are children of all ages, who, without your help, may not receive a gift this holiday season. Donations ideas include stuffed animals, books, DVDs, board games, music, crayons/coloring books, costume jewelry, cars and trucks. The gifts will be delivered to the hospital on Dec. 14.
Food giveaway scheduled
HANOVERTON - The United Community Food Basket's Christmas food giveaway, for families living in the United Local School District, will be held on Dec. 20. Attendees are to bring proof of residence and proof of income. The giveaway will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Ruritan Hall on Second Street in Hanoverton.
Salem nominations accepted
SALEM - The Salem High School Athletic Hall of Fame will be accepting nominations for the Class of 2013 until Jan. 31, 2013. Up to five new members will be selected.
Any athlete, coach, team, or contributor can be nominated for the Hall of Fame as long as certain criteria are met. Athletes must have been out of school for 10 years and must have lettered at least one time in the varsity sport for which they are nominated. Coaches must have been finished coaching at Salem for at least five years and must have achieved significant coaching accomplishments during their tenure. For teams, it must have been 10 years since they last competed, and they must have won at least a conference championship or an equivalent accomplishment if no conference existed. Contributors can be nominated at any time.
Relevant dates and other supporting information, such as statistics or honors received, should be included to support the nomination. After the verification of nomination information and further research, the Class of 2013 will be selected. Announcement will be made May 1 of the newest members of the SHS Athletic Hall of Fame.
All nominations must be signed and include a contact number for the person making the nomination. Nominations should be either mailed to the Salem High School Athletic Hall of Fame, P.O. Box 662, Salem, Ohio 44460 or sent via email to email@example.com.

Penny Traina takes position at Beaver Creek Assisted Living Center
EAST LIVERPOOL - CrossRoads at Beaver Creek Assisted Living Center has announced the appointment of Penny Traina to the position of executive director.
Traina, a former Columbiana County commissioner, has a bachelor's of arts degree in human resources. She brings with her a wealth of experience in business, finance, and federal, state and local regulations. Traina also has a significant and long term history in social and public interest and attributes her perseverance to her commitment to helping others.
