SALEM - Dorothy Jean Ward, 84, died at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Willowbrook retirement complex, in Delaware Ohio, from complications of flu and Alzheimer's disease.
She was born Aug. 26, 1928, in Enon Valley, Pa., a daughter of the late Frank and Hazel Hartford. As a result of her school in Pennsylvania being condemned, she attended and graduated from East Palestine High School, where she met her husband of 64 years, Lee (Roy) Ward.
Following her husband's career moves, she resided in Pittsburgh, Akron, Texas, Parkersburg, W. Va., Crown Point, Ind., and Bloemendaal, Holland. In her career, she was an executive secretary to three different company presidents, worked in a newspaper office and ended her career as office and personnel manager for a shipping firm.
Surviving are a daughter, Lisa Bednar; a son, Douglas (Dianne) Ward; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home. Rev. David Sutten of the Bible Presbyterian Church will conduct services.
Her family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
