County students to bring change for kids in need

COLUMBIANA - Columbiana County students will be bringing in the nickels, dimes and quarters they have collected to help children in need who don't have health insurance for today's fourth annual "Koins for Kids" charitable campaign at Das Dutch Village Inn. This year's event, sponsored by Handel's Inc., benefits Akron Children's Hospital. The inn is designated as the official county drop-off location as well as the host site for the WKBN radio-thon from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the lobby.

WKBN talk-show hosts Mike Romigh, Ron Verb and Dan Rivers will be at the inn for live remote radio broadcasts of their 6 and 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. talk shows. Along with the inn, additional sponsors for the radio-thon include Das Dutch Haus restaurant, Dutch Cupboard, Witmer's Inc., Whispering Pines Assisted and Independent Living and the Columbiana Area Tourism Bureau. Food distribution at Bunker Hill United Methodist Church

SALEM - The Second Harvest Food Bank distribution is slated from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church on the corner of Seacrist and Middletown roads.

Benefit spaghetti dinner for family set at Salem Elks

SALEM - The benefit spaghetti dinner for the Olivia Thompson family is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Elks Lodge on East State Street. Donations will be accepted at the door. To donate food, gift baskets, baked goods, etc., call 330-356-9439 or 330-257-0189.

Community pancake breakfast set Sunday at Zion Hill

COLUMBIANA - A community pancake breakfast will be served from 9 to 10 a.m. Sunday at Zion Hill Church of the Brethren, 14550 New Buffalo Road. The Christmas Advent service follows at 10:30 a.m.

Salem Public Library board meeting set Monday

SALEM - Salem Public Library's regular board meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. Monday in the board room.

VFW Auxiliary to meet

Monday at Salem post

SALEM - The Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 892's meeting and Christmas party starts at 7 p.m. Monday at the post home. No gift exchange is planned, instead a donation will be made to the Salem Salvation Army. Members are asked to bring a finger food for the party.

Breakfast buffet offered at North Lima church

NORTH LIMA - An all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet will be available from 7 to 10 a.m. Dec. 29 at the North Lima Mennonite Church, 90 Mennonite Drive. Donations will be accepted. Items on the buffet include eggs, pancakes, french toast, sausage, potatoes, homemade rolls, sausage gravy and biscuits, peppers and onions, coffee, orange juice, and other beverages. New owners want new name for Salem Care Center

SALEM - The Salem Care Center is under new ownership and management and is sponsoring a "new name" contest. The company is currently undergoing renovations, substantially increasing its number of private rooms, creating a state-of-the-art therapy gym, and an elegant dining room to further enhance the lives of its residents and create a home-like atmosphere. Since it is a community rehab center, management believes the community should share in the fun of re-naming the center.

The public is asked to send their submission to: Salem Care Center, 1985 E. Pershing St., Salem, Ohio 44460. The winner of the new name contest will receive a $250 gift certificate to Giant Eagle. The winner will be announced at the Salem Care Center's upcoming dedication ceremony to be announced.
