Weingart Cousins meet

SALEM - Sixteen Weingart cousins met in December. Birthdays and anniversaries were observed. The next breakfast begins at 9 a.m. Jan. 8.

SHS?'55 to hold lunch

SALEM -The Salem High School Class of 1955 will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 26 at BB Rooners.

SHS '54 plans breakfast

SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1954 plans to meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. Dec. 27 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

SCH Auxiliary meeting slated

SALEM - The Salem Community Hospital Auxiliary meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 10 in the small dining room at the back of the hospital cafeteria. Betsy Williams, SCH assistant director of case management, will speak. The public is invited.

New arts class for 2013 fair

LISBON - Columbiana County Fair Board Director for the Arts and Crafts Department Sharen Cope has announced a new class for the 2013 fair. "Decorated Tables" has been an extremely popular class at the nearby Geauga County Fair and will now be instituted at the local fair.

Exhibitors can choose to participate in the three categories: A Christmas Gathering, Anniversary Celebration and Bountiful Harvest. The third category is in honor of the county's agricultural heritage. Exhibitors are to provide the linens, glassware, place settings and table arrangement for each classification and points are awarded for each section.

A best of show prize will also be awarded. All displays will be in a protected area of the arts and crafts building. Further information will be available in the 2013 Premium Book or by contacting Cope at 330-222-1914.

The special category for the quilting/sewing departments for this year's fair will honor Vietnam veterans and will continue to utilize the red, white and blue theme.

Seven-One Club meets

SALEM - The Seven and One Club started off the holiday season with a progressive dinner. On Dec. 9, members gathered at the Weingart home for appetizers. The next stop was at the Dearth home for soup and salad. The main meal was served at the Mincks' home followed by dessert at the Bott home.

Mrs. Jack Bruderly served as hostess for the regular club night at her home featuring a Christmas dinner and party. Mrs. Roger Cooley was her guest. Cards were played and prizes won by Mrs. Gerald Mincks, first place; Mrs. Larry Dearth, second; Mrs. Fred Weingart, low; and Mrs. Herb Bott, travel. Mrs. Bruderly served a cheesecake and homemade Christmas cookies for dessert. Members then exchanged their secret name gifts, cards and small gifts. The members, who have become such close friends over the last 48 years, will end 2012 with dinner at Mason's Steak House followed by "ringing" in the new year at the Bruderly home. The first meeting in 2013 begins at 7 p.m. Jan. 16 at the Dearth home.

R-Weigh holds meetings

SALEM - The R-Weigh weight groups met at 1 and 5 p.m. Monday at the Faith Chapel and lost 21 pounds for the week. Good losers for the week at both meetings were JoAnne Bogdan, Sylvia Eller, Marian Doerr and Mary Hefner. Roni Fauver and JoCarol Gray were the goalies for the week. Patty Mills, Lisa Jones and Bogdan won the monetary can-do drawings. Bogdan received the monetary birthday award and was recognized for reaching her goal weight. Helen Baker, Evelyn Peters, Joyce Sanders, Irene Haver and Bogdan served low-calorie, low-fat foods celebrating their birthdays at the afternoon meeting.

Karen Pauline presided at the evening meeting and Carol Held told a funny reindeer story. Sixteen members were awarded $10 for winning the 2012 sticker contest. There will be no meetings on Dec. 24 or Dec. 31 because of the holiday. Pauline announced that the R-Weigh groups will be holding its Monday meetings starting Jan. 7 at the First Friends Church on Jennings Avenue. New members are welcome and can visit at no charge. TOPS?1380 meets

SALEM - TOPS 1380 members met Dec. 17 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Debbie May led the TOPS pledge while Margaret Phillips and Cora Jean Briggs recited the KOPS pledge.

Briggs and Phillips had eight weeks of perfect attendance and stayed below goal. Honorable mention went to Nancy Finch and Phillips won KOPS. December royals are Debbie May, TOPS; Barb May and Briggs, KOPS. The Rolling Cash Five was won by Jeannie Luxeuil and Eleanor May read for the "circle of light" ceremony.

The next meeting begins at 6:15 p.m. Jan.7 at the church.

DKG collects toys

EAST PALESTINE - The Alpha Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma met on Dec. 12 at the East Palestine Presbyterian Church. Toys were collected for the Boardman Campus of Akron Children's Hospital. The program was music by members of East Palestine's High School Choir. The next meeting begins at 6 p.m. March 13 at the Way Station in Columbiana. There will be a tour of the facility. Dessert will be served.

Salem VFW to host party

SALEM -A New Year's Eve party will be held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 892, 496 Arch St. Music will be provided by Damaged Goods. Food will be available. Admission is $5 for non-members.
