SALEM - Joseph M. Batyski, 91, died at 1 a.m. Dec. 31, 2012 at the Salem Community Hospital.
He was born Nov. 23, 1921 in Yatesboro, Pa., the son of the late Roman and Anna (Sabol)?Batyski.
Joseph was a 1939 graduate of Greenford High School. He also attended the General Motors Institute. For 31 years Mr. Batyski drove an 18-wheeler for Standard Oil and then for the United Tool and Die Co. He drove school bus for 20 years for the South Range Schools district.
Mr. Batyski was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for 70 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for 50 years.
As a young man, Joe was good at baseball and bowling for 65 years, 40 years at Kensington Bowling Alley. He was inducted into the Bowlers Hall of Fame for the Salem Association. Joe was an avid fan at his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sporting events.
Joe is survived by his wife, the former Beulah (Grace) Batyski, whom he married on Dec. 16, 1943.
He is also survived by two daughters, Carole Murray and Susan (Jim)?Bowman of Salem; seven grandchildren, James Jr. (Pam)?Murray, Gregory (Mary)?Murray, Eric (Holly)?Murray, Jason Murphy, Ty (Melissa) Murray, Darrin (Angie)?Bowman, James (Casey)?Shidel and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, James Lex Murray; a brother, Alex Batyski; and a sister, Albina Evanoff.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Roberts Edwards officiating.
Calling hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Stark Memorial. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery.
