"We came out in the first half and we weren't hitting our shots," Beaver Local head coach Jake Walgate said. "Our kids stayed focus. They kept plugging away, and that led to the turnaround."

The loss drops the Golden Bears to 2-8.

"We had a 10 point lead at halftime, and I thought we were playing very well," Oak Glen head coach Dave Smith said. "We were moving the ball well. They played a 1-3-1 zone, and we planned on that. They were a little more physical, and we didn't handle that well.

"We scored 31 points in the first half, and we scored 19 points in the second half. That was the difference in the game."

The seven-point margin of victory was Beaver Local's biggest lead of the night. Oak Glen's biggest lead came in the second stanza when the Golden Bears were out in front by a score of 26-11.

Four players scored in double digits for the Beavers.

Senior Zack Mick contributed a team-high 15 points to lead the way for the victors. Also, Jared Lyder recorded 14 points, and Chase Hilliard and Troy Hudson each delivered 10 points.

Finally, Ethan Campbell collected three points, Brandon Fetty and Josh Underwood each tallied two points and Matt Chamberlain ended up with one point.

Two players scored in double digits for the Golden Bears.

Matt McLaughlin netted a game-high 17 points to lead the way for Oak Glen. Cody Howell collected 10 points.

Also for the visitors, Taylor Kincaid delivered nine points, Jakob Ford recorded six points and Tyler Click contributed five points. Finally, David McGraw added three points.

Beaver Local outrebounded Oak Glen, 23-19 Lyder grabbed eight rebounds to lead the way for the Beavers. Kincaid pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds to lead the way for the Golden Bears.

Both teams reached double digits in turnovers. Oak Glen committed 17, while Beaver Local committed 14.

Oak Glen used the 3-point shot effectively to build its early advantage. All told, the Golden Bears drained eight shots from beyond the arc. The Beavers connected on six shots from long range.

The Golden Bears scored the first 11 points of the game. McLaughlin led the charge with eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

The Beavers went more than four minutes without a point before Hilliard scored to put the hosts on the scoreboard. Beaver Local battled its way back into the game as Oak Glen led 19-11 at the end of the first quarter.

The Golden Bears extended their lead in the second stanza.

Two 3-pointers by Ford put Oak Glen up 25-11 forcing Walgate to call a time out with 6:34 left to play in the first half. A foul shot by McGraw put the Bears up by 15.

Trailing by 15 points, the Beavers staged a mini rally to end the second stanza. Hilliard tallied five-straight points to pull Beaver Local to within 29-21 late in half. Oak Glen led 31-21 at the break.

"They played a box-and-1 on Hudson," Walgate said. "We knew someone was going to do it with the way he can put the ball in the hoop.

"Zack Mick played a heck of a second half. He some big 3-pointers. He made them come off of Hudson and guard him."

The Beavers ripped off a 16-5 run to open the third quarter enabling them to take their fist lead of the game at 37-36 on a basket by Hudson with 3:47 showing on the clock. Beaver Local ended the quarter on a 7-3 spurt to take a 46-44 lead into the fourth quarter.

All told, Beaver Local outscored Oak Glen, 25-13, in the quarter.

"They attacked the bucket," Smith said. "They have guard good play. They attacked the basket.

"Beaver Local is a good team. I give Jake a lot of credit. He has that program headed in the right direction. He has really done a nice job."

It was more of the same in the fourth quarter as the Beavers continued to play well on both ends of the floor.

"We played with a lot of energy in the Poland game, and we had to do some things in the end and it got away from us," Walgate said. "We didn't want to start a losing streak. Hopefully, tonight started a winning streak."

After Howell scored the first four points of the period to give the Golden Bears a 48-46 lead, the Golden Bears ended the game on a 11-2 run to put the game away.

"One of the big things was our best players and our best scorer was not on the floor," Smith said. "Cody Howell is averaging 16 or 17 points per game for us, and he has to be on the floor. He has to stay on the floor. It had nothing to do with the officiating. He has to move his feet. Tonight, it was on him. He has been a good player all year. Tonight, it was a letdown. He will bounce back and learn from this."

Beaver Local won the JV game, 46-39.

Chandler Cornell collected 12 points to lead the way for the Beavers, and Bryce McKenzie contributed 10 points. Carlos Sprott tallied 12 points for the Golden Bears, and Cyle Perez contributed seven.

Beaver Local's next game is Friday at Hubbard. Oak Glen's next game is Saturday at East Fairmont.
