LEETONIA - After 10 years, the book is finally closed on the Leetonia school district's K-12 campus construction project. The school board Thursday night approved the certificate of completion from the Ohio School Facilities Commission (OSFC).
According to schools Superintendent Rob Mehno, there had been many issues at the facility following completion of the project for which the OSFC was responsible, most recently the resurfacing of the parking lot. Mehno said that the mortar of the front wall of the middle school wing still needs to be fixed, but the OSFC has already provided $19,000 for the repair.
Mehno recognized the efforts of prior administrations, school boards and faculties for making sure the project was completed correctly.
"Even though it was a long time, they made sure it was (done) right," he said.
In other business the board accepted donations of $1,877.28 from LASA for the Soccer Program and tabletop scoreboard, $250 from the Leetonia/Washingtonville Baseball Association for the weight room project and $100 from the Washingtonville VFW for the Hall of Fame fund.
The board also approved supplemental contracts for the 2013-14 school year for Cindy Jones, seventh-grade volleyball co-coach; Kristina Smith, seventh-grade volleyball co-coach; and Tricia Scott, varsity assistant volleyball coach; and hired Emily Goerig as a substitute teacher for the remainder of the 2012-13 school year.
Additionally the board approved the purchase of the district's insurance from Ohio Casualty through Holloway Insurance from Feb. 1, 2013, to Jan. 31, 2014, as follows: Property Insurance, $11,758; Liability Insurance, $8,356; Fleet Insurance, $4,579; and Umbrella Coverage, $3,953.
The board also granted permission to the Leetonia Ruritans to use the K-12 campus for their annual Pizza Challenge Feb. 12 and to Maria Frenger to take the fourth grade to Camp Muskingum March 6-8.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 28 in Room 20 of the K-12 campus.
