Abby's Light memorial fund donations accepted at banks
SALEM -Abby's Light is a memorial fund that the community can make contributions to ease the financial burden of medical costs and funeral in the memory of Abby Walker.
Donations will be accepted at any Huntington Bank in Columbiana County.
Abby, 13, was killed Monday evening when a four-wheeler she was riding on flipped over near Summitville. She was the daughter of Shannon Gonzalez-Marra and Detective Steven Walker of the Columbiana County Sheriff's Department.
She was a 7th grade student at Southern Local where she played volleyball, was a peer mentor and tutor as well as a member of the EXCEL gifted program, and was a member of the Academic Challenge team She was a member of Trinity Friends Church and was active in the youth group there.

Scholarship honoring late West Branch teacher offered
BELOIT - The Rebecca Bricker Scholarship Committee and the Sebring-West Branch Area Community Foundation have announced that applications are now available for the scholarship. Bricker was a long-time kindergarten teacher with the West Branch Local School District.
The scholarship will be awarded each summer for 15 years.
This year will be the third year of the scholarship. Candidates for the scholarship must be current sophomores or juniors at the college level and must be majoring in elementary education or a related field (art, music, physical education, reading specialist, etc). The applicant must have a 2.2 college grade point average.
Two scholarships of $ 1,000 will be awarded with preference being given to junior students. Application forms and a list of required documents are available at the West Branch website at www.westbranchk12.oh.us. Applications and related materials can also be requested from email@example.com.

Teaming4Success scheduled May 6 at Community Center
SALEM - Teaming4Success is an Economic Development Summit held once a year in Columbiana County and sponsored by the Columbiana County Chambers and the Sustainable Opportunity Development Center.
The 2013 event is slated from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, May 6, at the Salem Community Center. This year's theme is "Growing Northeast Ohio's Competitiveness."
The event will offer important information and updates on the county and U.S. Route 30 completion, Team NEO-Northeast Ohio Regional Economic Competitiveness, National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Initiative, TechBelt Energy Initiative, MAGNET-PRISM, and API Certification for Oil and Gas.

Damascus Community Center Park Board elects officers
DAMASCUS - Officers were elected when the Damascus Community Center Park Board met March 25.
The new officers are Ken Schwingle, president; Marilyn Wingett, vice president; Buck Given, treasurer; and Beth Grimm, secretary. The 2013 mowing contract was awarded to Smith Landscaping.
There were over 100 in attendance at the annual Easter egg hunt and petting zoo, organized by Wingett, with help from Auburn Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and G's Pizza.
A new piece of equipment was purchased and will be installed for the playground area. Pavilion rental for various gatherings is available by calling 330-537-4010.
The public is welcome to the next board meeting at 7 p.m. April 22 at the park.
Relay for Life Golf Scramble in honor of Janie Mowery planned
SALEM - The second annual Relay for Life Golf Scramble in honor of Janie?Mowery will be held Saturday, May 11 at the Flying "B"?Golf Course.
It is held in memory of the longtime Salem schools teacher who passed away in January 2012.

West Branch will soon accept open enrollment applications
BELOIT - Open enrollment applications will be accepted from April 15 through May 15 for anyone interested in attending the West Branch Local School District for the 2013-14 school year.
Applications for inter-open enrollment (students living outside the West Branch District) and intra-open enrollment (elementary students living within the district, but wish to attend an alternative elementary building) will be available in the superintendent's office beginning 8 a.m. April 15.
The application deadline is 4 p.m. May 15. Applications will not be accepted after this date.
The West Branch Local School District will not be responsible for transportation of students from other districts or for students requesting to attend outside their elementary attendance area.

LISBON - Columbiana County Auditor Nancy Milliken reported Wednesday that levy issues appearing on the May 7 primary ballot have been added to her website at www.columbianacntyauditor.org.
The levy tab will display the levy issues in your taxing district and any additional cost to you based upon your current valuation and the current tax rates.
By entering your name or parcel address, you can determine the levy issues that you will be asked to vote on and the cost to you (based upon your current valuation) of each individual levy issue.

KNOX TOWNSHIP - The Knox Antique Auto, Engine, and Tractor Association will hold its 23rd annual antique machinery show beginning at 8 a.m. April 26 and 27.
A free car and truck show is slated from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 27, rain or shine, on a blacktop parking lot.
All exhibitors: antique tractors and equipment, crafters, and flea market vendors, are welcome.
