HIGHLANDTOWN - A woman escaped serious injury after the Buick she was driving crashed into a tree just off Fife Coal Road about 3 a.m. Saturday.

Highlandtown Fire Chief Tim Roush said the woman was already out of the vehicle when the department arrived to put out the fire that ignited from the impact.

She was the only one inside the Buick and refused medical treatment at the scene by Tri-County Ambulance, he said.

The Highlandtown and Wellsville fire departments were able to get the fire out fairly quick, he added.

The extent of the damage was to the vehicle's engine compartment, he said.

The Lisbon Post of the Highway Patrol is handling the accident and more information, including the woman's name and cause of the accident, will be released later.
