$1M bond set for man accused of killing neighbor

July 6, 2013
By DEANNE JOHNSON , Salem News

LISBON - Bond was set at $1 million by Judge Mark Frost of Columbiana County Municipal Court for the Knox Township man accused of shooting his neighbor late Tuesday night.

Frank Gorichky, 53, 9 Kevin Drive, Alliance, who appeared by video arraignment Friday from the Columbiana County jail, was represented by two attorneys. One of his attorneys, Bruce Williams, asked that Gorichky not speak to anyone until Williams had an opportunity to speak with him later Friday at the jail. James Hartford also appeared on Gorichky's behalf.

Some family members believed to be with Gorichky were in the court on Friday, including one young woman, who left following the hearing wiping away tears. Williams asked Frost to consider a lesser bond, noting Gorichky is a lifelong Columbiana County resident and the shooting happened at his own home. Additionally, Williams pointed out Gorichky had family and children in the court room.

However, County Prosecutor Robert Herron said Gorichky has a previous felony conviction, and due to the serious nature of the crime, he requested a higher bond.

According to court documents, Gorichky pleaded guilty in 2007 to burglary and violating a protection order. He was ordered at that time to serve nine months in prison. Documents also show a felony drug-related offense in 1990.

Due to conflicts with Gorichky's attorneys' calendars, his preliminary hearing was set for July 12. He was taken into custody on July 2 and without a waiver of time, preliminary hearings must be held within 10 days.

Michael Fisher, 49, 19 Kevin Drive, was found dead of a gunshot wound on Gorichky's front porch at the Country Squire Mobile Home Park on U.S. Route 62, where both men had lived across a drive from each other. Gorichky was taken into custody immediately by deputies, who reportedly also located the weapon believed used for the shooting.
