GOSHEN TWP. - Goshen police arrested a Beloit man early Wednesday morning after he allegedly stole his sister's car and made threats against her.
Derek E. Chittock, 27, 148 Cedarwood Drive, was charged with a fourth-degree felony count of motor vehicle theft and a minor misdemeanor for disorderly conduct after police responded to his home at 2 a.m. where his sister claimed that he entered her room while she was asleep and took her keys.
According to responding officer Kevin Ragan's report, Chittock's mother said she saw him leave in his sister's car despite attempts to stop him, at which time she returned to the home and woke the sister, who called Chittock, but he hung up.
Officers then responded to an East Ohio Avenue gas station in Sebring where the sister had recovered her vehicle with a passenger inside. Chittock had apparently left the area and was later found to have returned home. The passenger was unaware that the vehicle had been stolen.
Officers responded back to the residence and were met by Chittock's mother carrying baseball bat and claiming that Chittock was inside making threats against the sister and the sister's boyfriend while brandishing a knife, causing her to feel threatened. A search of his pockets revealed a small pocket knife.
Chittock admitted taking the car for transportation for a friend whose grandfather had died.
