Beloit woman sues Salem attorney

LISBON - A Beloit woman filed a lawsuit in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court Thursday claiming her Salem attorney failed to properly handle her case.

Anne Marie Fraser of Beloit filed a lawsuit seeking $100,000 from attorney Brian Macala alleging he mishandled her case against her ex-husband, thus committing malpractice.

Fraser claims she hired Macala to handle a matter about child support, medical bills and other things. Then in April 2010 she claims she received an order signed by the judge claiming Macala and Fraser signed paperwork agreeing to dismiss the case.

Macala reportedly denied signing the order, offered to file an objection to the order and offered to subpoena the ex-husband's paycheck records from his employer.

Fraser claims she waited for the case to be scheduled, but did not hear from Macala, who responded to her phone calls by saying the case was postponed because the ex-husband's attorney became a judge. On Sept. 27, 2012, Macala reportedly wrote a letter to Fraser stating he had not signed the objections.
