Perry Township leaf pickup begins Nov. 4

PERRY TWP. - The annual leaf pickup for Perry Township residents will begin Nov. 4 on the north side for two weeks and then begin on the south side on Nov. 18 for another two weeks.

Leaves must be secured in bags and placed on the curb lawn near the street for pickup, with bags of a size that can be lifted into a truck by one person. Sticks and twigs will be picked up separately and must be bundled.

The dividing line between north and south for the township is State Street.

Anyone with questions can call the Perry Township Road Department at 330-337-7266.

Also a reminder, trick or treat will be held in the township from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31, the same as the city of Salem.

Breakfast is Saturday at the Saxon Club

SALEM - The public is invited to an all-you-can-eat homemade breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Saxon Club on Route 9. Cost is $6 per person.

Circle of Care hosting Oktoberfest

SALEM - Circle of Care is hosting its annual Oktoberfest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m Saturday at 1985 E. Pershing St. Families are invited for food, beverages, auctions, and fun activities. All proceeds will go to the activities department.

Rabies and Microchip Clinic is Saturday

SALEM - Alchemy Acres Animal Sanctuary will host a Rabies and Microchip Clinic from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at 1859 Depot Road.

One year and three-year rabies vaccines will be available for $10. Microchip with registration is available for $35. All proceeds benefit the animals at the sanctuary. For more information and pre-registration call 330-332-4897.

Dinner planned at Bunker Hill Church

BELOIT - The public is invited to a chicken and biscuit dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 26, or until sold out, at the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church, 15096 W. Middletown Road, Beloit.

The menu offers homemade chicken and gravy with biscuits, mashed potatoes, vegetables, cole slaw, dessert and beverage. Cost is $8 per person and $5 for children ages 2 to 6. Dine in or carryout are available.

Free distribution, giveaway is Oct. 26

LISBON A free produce distribution and free new or like-new winter coat and winter clothing giveaway for adults and children highlight the sixth annual "Make a Difference Day" on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Lisbon First United Methodist Church, 114 E. Washington St.

The produce distribution begins at 9 a.m. in the pavilion at the rear of the church. The coat and clothing giveaway is from 10 a.m. until noon in the church fellowship hall.

Anyone in the community in need of winter outerwear or clothing is invited to attend. Although the person for whom a coat is intended is not required to be present, there is a limit of one coat per person (adult or child) in each household so that anyone attending may have an opportunity to find a coat among the selection.

Because of the large quantity of winter clothing that has been donated, there will be no limit on clothing. A limited supply of boots, shoes, hats and gloves for adults and children is also available.

A complimentary light lunch will be served on the fellowship hall stage.

Those wishing to donate winter coats or winter clothing for "Make a Difference Day" is asked to bring them to the church by noon Thursday, Oct. 24. Items can be dropped off weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (use the east entrance off the alley, go up the stairs, and make a right turn toward the administrative offices).

Skin cancer screening clinic is Oct. 29

LISBON - A skin cancer screening clinic will be held on Oct. 29 at the Columbiana County Health Department, 7360 state Route 45. Appointments may be made, free of charge, by calling 330-424-0272.

Fun Factory offering free skating

SALEM - In observance of October as national skating month, the Salem Fun Factory is offering free skate admission and free skate rental from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 30.

'Bunnicula' planned at Roxy Theatre

MINERVA - The Minerva Area Chamber of Commerce and ArtsInStark will present "Bunnicula" at 2 p.m. Nov. 2 in Minerva's Roxy Theatre, 114 N. Market St.

Performed by the professional actors of Magical Theatre Company, "Bunnicula" is the tale of a vampire bunny who sucks the juice from vegetables and the family dog and cat who figure out he is not a normal rabbit. "Bunnicula" is geared for elementary-age children.

Tickets are $10 each and available at the chamber office, 203 N. Market St., or at the door the day of the play. Doors open at 1:30 p.m.

Super Bingo is Nov. 3 at St. Jude Parish

COLUMBIANA - Doors open at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 3 on Super Bingo Sunday at St. Jude Parish, 180 Seventh St. Games begin at 2 p.m.

A $25 donation includes cards for all regular games, a free dauber and coffee and pop. Specials are sold separately. A total of $3,400 in cash prizes will be awarded, including a $1,000 guaranteed coverall. Lunch items and baked good will be available for purchase.

SHS Choir sponsoring NYC bus trip

SALEM - Salem High School Choir, under the direction of Attila Samu, has organized a bus trip to New York City on Dec. 14, just in time for the upcoming holiday season.

There are only a few seats remaining. Group Tours has extended its deadline to fill the bus completely. The NYC Express will depart by motor coach from the Salem High School parking lot at 11 p.m., Dec. 13 and travel all night with rest stops made enroute.

Arrival time is approximately 7 a.m. Dec. 14 for an entire day for visitors to enjoy some of the sights and activities available in NYC including the Rockefeller Christmas tree, shopping on Fifth Avenue, Macy's, Times Square etc. Departure from NYC is 9 p.m. with a return to Salem at approximately 6 a.m. Dec. 15.

Cost is $90 per person. An additional tour protection fee of $10 is optional. Payment is due at the time of your reservation to secure your seat on this tour.

Fish fry is today at Columbiana Legion Post

COLUMBIANA - A fish fry will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Columbiana American Legion Post #290, 44403 State Route 14. All benefits will be donated to Sherrie Halas, an employee at the post, who has recently been diagnosed with cancer. The proceeds will help with medical care and other related expenses. There will be Chinese auction baskets and a 50/50 raffle conducted by the honor guard.

Cost is $10, which includes all-you-can-eat fried fish, french fries, macaroni and cheese, cole slaw, dessert and coffee or tea. Baked fish and baked potatoes are also available. Carryout orders are available in advance at 330-482-9657.

Halloween ghost walks planned Oct. 19, 26

HANOVERTON - Hanoverton's Halloween ghost walks begin at 7:15 p.m. Oct. 19 and 26. This tour includes a family-friendly tour to the cemetery. Cost is $6 for adults and children over 12. For more information and reservations call 330-223-1583.

AMVETS sponsoring Halloween parade

SALEM - AMVETS Post 45 is sponsoring this year's Halloween parade for all ages from 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 24.

Participants are asked to line up on East Pershing Street at the Salem Police Department at 5 p.m. and march to the Kent State University City Center at 230 North Lincoln Ave. for costume judging and prizes.

A Halloween party and refreshments follows at AMVETS Post 45, 750 S. Broadway Ave.
