Local students earn degrees from OSU

COLUMBUS - The following area residents recently graduated from The Ohio State University. The students and their degree include:

Local students perform in Mount Union's Christmas Festival

Students have been chosen to represent the Youngstown Area International People to People Student Ambassador Programs as delegates in the 2014 European Heritage High School Delegation. They are shown in the above photos.

During their 20-day program, students will be visiting England, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Germany and Switzerland. While on this adventure, these delegates will ride on an alpine roller coaster, trace heroic footsteps along the beaches of Normandy, and make friends with a German family during a home stay. They will meet with a member of British Parliament and go behind the scenes to explore European cathedrals and mysterious castles. They will ride the London Eye while in England and climb the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. During the next six months, these students will be learning and preparing themselves to experience these magnificent countries in ways that will inspire the imagination, feed their curiosity, and give them a new perspective on this amazing part of the world.

Those wishing to support any of these students may contact Harold Wilson, the delegation leader from Austintown at 330-799-4871. Students participating in this program are currently working to obtain funds and donations via various fundraisers and activities.

Graduates with honors

Leah Garwood, a 2010 graduate of Crestview Local, graduated summa cum laude on Dec. 14 from Kent State University in Kent with a degree in fashion merchandising and a minor in business. She is employed in the executive training program of Von Maur Department Stores headquartered in Davenport, Iowa. Von Maur is an upscale specialty department store chain. With 29 stores in 13 states, it is one of the few remaining family-owned and operated department stores in the U.S. She will begin her employment in Dayton before heading to the corporate office in the buyer training program. She is the daughter of John and Linda Garwood of Leetonia.


Local students perform in Mount Union's Christmas Festival

ALLIANCE - The following area students performed in the University of Mount Union's Christmas Festival in December at University Circle United Methodist Church in Cleveland and in the Myers Sanctuary of Dewald Chapel on Mount Union's campus.

-Alliance: Mark Amabeli, a junior mechanical engineering major; Sarah Croley, junior, communication and Japanese major; Alysea Dunham, freshman music education (voice) major; Abbie Fox, freshman, undecided; Cassie McIntosh, junior, national security/foreign intelligence analysis.

-Kensington: Jacob Ward, junior art and education major.

-Minerva: Kristen Morton, senior music performance (voice) major; Allison Bates, sophomore music education (flute) major.

-Maximo: Paige Morris, sophomore music performance (piano) major.

-Salem: Cody Raga, sophomore religious studies major.
