Mullins to hold 103rd commencement

SALEM - Hannah E. Mullins School of Practical Nursing will conduct its 103rd commencement graduation ceremony at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Kent State University City Center.

Lisbon food pantry to open Thursday

LISBON - Lisbon Baptist Food Pantry at 6428 Lisbon Road will be open from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday. Bring identification.

Salem artist wins mention at Butler show

SALEM - Mark Scheuring of Salem has won a Juror's Special Mention award at the 76th Area Artists annual exhibition held at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown. His piece is titled "October Storm."

The juror for the region's top art exhibition was Al Bright, retired professor of art history at Youngstown State University. Bright selected 140 works from 102 artists for the show. The exhibition continues through Feb. 23.

Drivers ed class offered in Leetonia

LEETONIA - AAA is offering a driver education class starting Feb. 24. Forms are available in the Leetonia High School office. All students are welcome to attend including home-schooled. For more information call 330-692-0763 before 10 p.m.

Care packages to be sent to troops

COLUMBIANA - American Legion Post 290 Ladies Auxiliary is seeking names of local residents actively serving in the military, either stateside or overseas, to send "Comfort from Home" care packages in early spring. Names and address may be sent to the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, P.O. Box 143, Columbiana, Ohio 44408. Monetary donations, or items for the boxes, are also being accepted.

The auxiliary plans to sponsor 10 local students to Buckeye Girl's State at Mount Union University. Individuals, business owners and organizations wishing to sponsor a delegate, or donate a gasoline gift card, are asked to submit the information to the above P.O. box.

Night at Races to aid Wildlife Center

LISBON - The Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center will host a Night at the Races fund raiser on March 8 at the Negley Fire Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m. The evening will include racing action, Chinese auction, raffles, and a 50/50 drawing. Admission is $5 per person which includes food and non-alcoholic beverages. People may bring their own beer to consume during the event, but no hard liquor. Attendees must be at least 21 years of age. Horse owners will be admitted free, and horses can be purchased for $10 each from Cindy Lyon at 330-385-8865 or Eldena Gearhart at 330-227-3485. Band and choir concert set in United

HANOVERTON - Top musicians from county high schools will perform together at the 2014 Columbiana County Honors Band and Choir Concert at 2:30 p.m. April 5 at United Local High School. The guest conductor and clinician for the Honors Choir is Dr. Grant Cook, director of choral activities at the University of Mount Union. Dr. Stephen Gage, director of bands at Youngstown State University, will be the guest conductor and clinician for the Honors Band. Beaver Local hall of fame names needed

LISBON - The Beaver Local Alumni Association is excepting nominations for the 2014 Alumni Hall of Fame. Nomination applications can be picked up at the board of education offices, or by contacting Marcie Guy, marcieg22@hotmail.com or 330-801-2597. Nominations must be received by March 15. This year's hall of fame dinner is May 10 at the high school.

Leetonia Library offers tech classes

LEETONIA- The Leetonia Community Public Library is holding the following computer/tech classes: Internet searching, 6 p.m. Feb. 27; Ebay basics, 6 p.m., March 4 (not be setting up an account at this time); Teen Tech Week program for those in grades 5-8, 3 to 6:30 p.m., March 10 (bring a friend and a laptop or tablet and let us help you download a book or two); email basics, 1 p.m., March 13 (setting up an account if you don't already have one, bring a laptop if you have one); Introduction to Computers, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., March 15; ACT Prep class for high school students, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., March 17 (learn tips to overcome test anxiety, and navigating the test for a better performance). Registration is required for all classes except for the Teen Tech Week program. Call 330-427-6635 to register as space is limited.

Salem Community Pantry meeting set

SALEM - The Salem Community Pantry will hold its annual board meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Salem. The meeting is open to the public.
