Washingtonville George "Hooker" Boston, 96, of Washingtonville, died at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at his home.
Mr. Boston was born Dec. 1, 1917 in Washingtonville, a son of the late Woodard and Edith Asherman Boston and lived in the same home all of his life.
He was a graduate of Leetonia High School and served in the US Army during WWII in Europe. He had been employed as an investigator for the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles and prior to that for the State Fire Marshal's Office. He had also worked at NRM Corporation, Leetonia and the former Mullins Manufacturing, Salem.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Leetonia, Leetonia Lodge #401 F.&A.M., the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Joe Williams Post #131 American Legion, and the Leetonia Sportsmens Club, all of Leetonia and York Drexler Post #5532 VFW of Washingtonville. He also served as a volunteer fireman for the former Washingtonville Volunteer Fire Department for 45 years and as fire chief for 24 years.
He is survived by his wife, the former Betty Jean Zimmerman, whom he married Aug. 21, 1948.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Harrison and Verona Davis; and one brother, Robert "Tink" Boston.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia, with Pastor Ashley McMillin officiating. Burial will follow in Washingtonville Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Salem Honor Guard.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesday. The Leetonia Lodge will conduct Masonic services at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Sign the register and send condolences at www.familycareservices.com
