Community Chorus beginning rehearsals
LISBON - The Lisbon Community Chorus under the direction of Tom McKenna will begin rehearsals for the concert on the square and the Johnny Appleseed Festival performances at 7 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church on East Washington Street. Rotary Club seeking host families
SALEM - The Rotary Club of Salem is seeking a family to host an exchange student from Sweden for the first few months of the school year.
Host families do not have to be Rotarians, but should have the means to accept an "adopted" member of the family. High school students who have an interest in studying abroad through the Rotary Exchange Outbound program are asked to encourage their families to serve as hosts for this year's exchange student.

'$1 pizza night' planned at Saxon Club bingo
SALEM - "$1 pizza night" will be held during the Wednesday Night Bingo at the Saxon Club, 1980 state Route 9. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Early bird games start at 6:30 p.m. The kitchen will be open featuring hot dogs, coney dogs, sloppy joes, assorted desserts and free coffee.
Proceeds will be directed to the Saxon Club Scholarship Fund which benefits youth from the entire area, not just Salem.

Saxon Club hosting all-you-can-eat breakfast
SALEM - The public is invited to an all-you-can eat breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. Aug. 16 at the Salem Saxon Club, 1980 Newgarden Ave.
The menu offers sausage gravy and biscuits, bacon, sausage links, eggs, hash browns, pancakes, waffles, fresh fruit and beverages. Cost is $6 for adults.
'Ladies Day at the Range' is Aug. 24
SALEM - The Salem Hunting Club is hosting "Ladies Day at the Range" from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 24, free of charge.
Females above 9 years old (minors are required to have a parent or guardian accompany them) are invited to the club's ranges to enjoy themselves in a safe, family friendly environment under the supervision of certified instructors and range safety officers.
Bring your own guns, ammunition and eye and ear protection. "Loaners" are available for beginners and a limited supply of eye and ear protection.
A compound bow range will also be set up. Attendees encouraged to pre-register at firstname.lastname@example.org or 330-332-9847. The required firearms safety presentation starts at 10 a.m.
Historical Society hosting summer picnic
SALEM - The Salem Historical Society's annual summer picnic will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Phil and Marge Greenisen, 1904 Depot Road. Included will be the sharing of information Greenisen's discovered when researching their Century Home.
This will be followed with a presentation by Carolyn Caldwell, "Recognizing Your Historic Home." Those attending are asked to bring a coverdish and table service.
Caldwell, charter member and current board member of Salem Preservation Society, lives at Maple Dell Farm, listed on the National Register.
She is past president and a lifetime member of the society, retired from AT&T, now working at Deerfield Farms. She will speak about the local century home designation and the process for inclusion on the Ohio Historic Inventory and the National Register of Historic Places. Angels for Animals recruiting volunteers
CANFIELD - Angels for Animals is recruiting volunteers and will be stationed at the 2014 Canfield Fair.
The group also plans to host "Angels Autumn Market," an arts/craft show at the Canfield Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 20 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 21. Applications are still being accepted for the show.
MCC&TC sponsoring public records clinic
CANFIELD - The Mahoning County Career & Technical Center is sponsoring training on Ohio's public records law fro 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 8.
Training for certified public records will be conducted by the Auditor of State's office. Registration is required; the registration website is ohioauditor.gov/trainings/registration.html
Participants should enter the drive next to the greenhouse and park in the rear of the building behind the restaurant. Entry is through Door 36. The training will be conducted in the Joyce Brooks Conference Center.
