"You have made numerous references to the size of council without the benefit of knowledge."
Really, copy and paste them.
"If Salem had a charter government, then the size could be dictated by city charter."
Nah, REALLY? Say it's not so, I just thought it would be okay to get rid of all those nasty little people and let the Mayor have full rein and power over the people!
If you intend to insult me...don't you think you can do better than that?

Exactly truthBtold that is why we will not get rid of the supersized government until we adopt a charter form of city government. Which is what a large percentage of communities in Ohio have already done. Charter government gives more power to the people as it can be written into the charter certain things which require a vote of the people in order for them to be enacted. A statutory form of city government is not the most efficient form of government for a city the size of Salem. It is time the city went to a charter form of government and streamlined the administration of it's government. A lot of the bloat in Salem government, can be found at city hall not in the number of workers that actually do the work that keep the city running. If Salem would do that and revamp the fire dept. (over time so no one loses their job) to have fewer full time and more part-time and volunteer firemen, then they would not need to pay for an audit. Actually that is probably what an audit would tell t

WatchDog, Salem has a statutory form of government and the number of council members and elected official positions is dictated by state law. Review Ohio Revised Code section 731. You have made numerous references to the size of council without the benefit of knowledge. If Salem had a charter government, then the size could be dictated by city charter.

Seriously, no fun poking, but seriously, do we need this big of city council and all the bells and whistles to go with it? Really? Is coming back down to earth that far out of reach?
I guess the question should be presented. Mr. Mayor do you see problems in the performance of this city? Is this the "back bone" strength you need to make those cuts? We are all living in a "tough times calling for tough choices" era.
Sometimes the smallest reorganization can make the greatest savings!!
This is a tough one. Because I am for it but against it! I am still confused to the "why" part of this. This all just boils down around, everybody wants gov running effectively and efficiently but who doesn't? But this question is being asked to those on the outside looking in.
The Mayor is for it. With the push the public needs to know their hard earned dollars are being spent wisely. That to me is always just the political escape response to bypass the actual answer to the questions every politician tries to avoid. The truth.
Spending this kind of money for the "atta boy", see, we told you in the public we were doing it right...seems irrational and irresponsible nonsense.
