Third time’s a charm for Eisenbraun

MASSILLON — It came down to the last race for United senior Mariah Eisenbraun.

After coming up short of a state berth in the 100-meter dash and 400-meter relay, Eisenbraun came through with a record run in the 200-meter dash in the Division III regional finals Friday at Massillon Perry High School.

“I was very nervous for sure,” Eisenbraun said. “I knew this could be my last high school race. I know I’m going to college (Mount Union), but it’s not the same.”

Eisenbraun’s time of 25.70 seconds gave her the fourth and final state berth and broke Dawn Woolf’s school-record time of 26.0 set in 1998.

The top four in each event advance to the state track meet in Columbus next Friday and Saturday.

Eisenbraun was sixth in the 100 dash (12.65) and United’s 400 relay team couldn’t earn a return trip to state after dropping the baton. The Eagles’ relay team of Grace Maroscher, Alli Zepernick, Camryn Jarrett and Eisenbraun finished seventh (57.23).

“The 4×1 was very devastating,” Eisenbraun said. “I was counting on the the 4×1 and going by myself (to state) and it was down to the 200. I could either dwell on it or I could forget about it.”

She did the best she could to put in behind her.

“It was kind of in the back of my head anyway,” Eisenbraun said.

Malvern freshman Zoe Moser won the 200 dash in 25.50 seconds.

“I ran against most of these girls last year,” Eisenbraun said. “I know I had to work hard for it. It wasn’t going to be easy.”

She hopes to have two races left as she closes out her high school career.

“I would like to be standing on the podium,” Eisenbraun said. “It’s been my goal and still is my goal.”
